Common sense shouldn’t feel like a radical idea, but lately it does. Some things just seem so obvious, you wonder why they were ever complicated in the first place.

I’ve always believed that the people making the rules shouldn’t be the ones deciding how long they get to stay in power. That kind of decision was meant to belong to the people—the ones actually living with the outcomes every single day. It’s not about politics, it’s about fairness and accountability.

And when something that simple turns into a debate, it makes you question how far things have drifted. Because at the end of the day, a system only works if the people still have a real say in it.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ADJOURNED ABRUPTLY AS WILLSON DEMANDED GARNISHMENT OF PAYCHECKS OF BETTY COOPER AND BRENDA SHELLING: The Thursday meeting of the Monroe City Schools was rolling along quietly until board member Bill Willson brought up the subject of the alleged misuse of travel funds by school board members Betty Cooper and Brenda Shelling.

Willson said that for the last two years, Shelling and Cooper racked up over $12,000 in travel overexpenditures and refused to pay it back. He demanded that their school board paychecks be garnished.

While he was still reading, Cooper, the chairperson, adjourned the meeting, even though it was Willson's turn to speak.
