Deck the Doors with Troop 146!

The holidays are coming, and Troop 146 has the perfect way to welcome them: our annual wreath sale is back!

This year’s wreaths are 26-inch fresh Fraser Fir beauties, harvested in Maine and finished with a classic red bow. Fraser Fir is a holiday favorite for good reason. It’s full, fragrant, and holds its needles well, so your wreath will look (and smell) wonderful all season long. Hang one on your front door to greet guests, place it above the fireplace, or display in any room that could use a little extra cheer.

Each wreath is just $30, and every purchase directly supports our Scouts and the troop’s adventures, service projects, and skill-building.

The details:
· Price: $30 per wreath
· Size: 26 inches, fresh Maine Fraser Fir with a red bow
· Order deadline: Wednesday, November 18
· Delivery: In time for Thanksgiving

To place your order, email Patrick M. at [email protected]. Wreaths make great gifts too, so think about grabbing one for a neighbor, friend, or grandparent while you’re at it.

October Campout

Moses Scout Reservation (Russell, MA)

It was a beautiful weekend packed with growth, grit, and great memories.

Weekend Achievements and Highlights:
* Skills Earned:
Scouts successfully completed requirements for their Totin’ Chit (woods tools safety) and Firem’n Chit (fire safety and building) led by parent volunteer Mr. D.
* Outdoor Activities: The scouts completed a hiking expedition, practiced fishing, and sharpened their individual cooking skills.
* Camp Games: Free time was filled with high-energy games of Gaga, Wiffle Ball, and Football Toss.
* Cooking Contest Winner: Congratulations to Christian E. for winning Saturday night’s award for the Most Creative Cooking Meal! Michael M. (2nd).

Saturday night gave everyone a real taste of autumn, with temperatures dropping to a chilly 39 degrees inside the tents—perfect practice for our November campout in New Hampshire!

Thanks to Carter C. for the two homemade breads he baked in advance and offered Sunday morning for all.

Important Reminders:
* Read the Update: Review Scoutmaster Mr. W.’s weekly email from today (Tuesday, Oct 6) and attachment for November Campout prep.
* Gear Return: Return all clean Troop gear to Quartermaster Santi G. this Thursday! ,

Congratulations to Oliver Buckley!

Oliver is our newest Eagle Scout! His Eagle Scout service project was conducting a tree and shrub planting at Auerfarm, a 120 acre non-profit farm, located in Bloomfield, CT.

Oliver is a senior at Hall High School. Over the years in the troop he has served as Librarian, Patrol Leader, Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Jr. Assistant Scoutmaster. Early on he also served as a Den Chief for a Cub Pack. Oliver has been a very active participant in our outdoor program to include summer camps, ski trips, and many of our Mt. Monadnock hiking and camping weekends in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Oliver was a crew member on our 2023 Seabase high adventure trip to the Bahamas and in 2025 he joined with a crew from Troop 44 who went to Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico for a 12 day backpacking trek. He was elected by his Troop 146 members to the Order of the Arrow. He completed 80 merit badges and was awarded 4 Bronze Palms, 3 Silver Palms and 3 Gold Palms. His merit badge total far as we know is the most of any Troop 146 member ever! Oliver spent two additional summers there, one as a Counselor in Training and another as a Counselor serving as the sports director. At Hall High School Oliver has been a member of cross country and track teams as well as band member playing the alto saxophone. He was a member of the Key Club which is dedicated to community service activities. Following his Confirmation here at the West Hartford United Methodist Church, he has been a member of United Methodist Army Youth Group where they combine Bible study with service activities to benefit the elderly and families in need. Following graduation Oliver is planning on joining Connecticut Army National Guard and then looking at colleges ollowing his initial active duty.

Semiquincentennial Camporee (America 250th) May 15-17 at Camp Workcoeman

17 Scouts and 4 Adult Leaders had an absolute blast this weekend attending this special event with challenges, scavenger hunts, hand-on programs and reenactors that brought American history to life.

Back at camp, older scouts helped new crossovers and younger scouts earn rank requirements by teaching patrol cooking, stove operations, sanitary cleanup, tent setup/removal and the Outdoor Code.
