The Bonsai Society of Hartford is a nonprofit public charity whose mission is to cultivate interest in the art of bonsai by offering educational programs, hands-on experiences, and public exhibits that inspire. The BSGH is non-profit club based in Central Connecticut that aims to promote interest and enjoyment of bonsai by assembling and making available information on its culture, and to acquaint bonsai fanciers with each other.

REX’S ANNUAL PRE-BONSAI SALE

Club member and local legend, Rex Mark, is hosting his annual pre-bonsai tree sale this weekend!

Rex’s material is grown specifically for bonsai and is of a much higher quality than what you’d find in a typical garden store. There will be lots of species including juniper, pine, hornbeam, larch, and more. Big trees and small. This is a great opportunity for people who want quality material at a great price.

The trees pictured here all came from Rex’s nursery.

Next club meeting is coming up on Monday, June 15! We’ll meet at the Elmwood Community Center in Room 22 from 7 - 9 PM. 🤗

This meeting is an Open Workshop for club members to bring in trees and work on them together. It’s a great time of year for all sorts of Summer work… decandling Japanese Black Pine, pruning styling and repotting tropicals, cutting back deciduous trees that have hardened off their Spring growth.

If you’re a beginner, this is a great opportunity to bounce questions off of the experienced members.

Bring a tree or two and come hang out! 🌲☀️😎

Friendly reminder to check your trees for any wires digging into the bark! 🚨 Your bonsai have been growing all Spring and it may be time to remove the wires before you get nasty scars. The branches swell quickly this time of year! 😅

I just removed the wire from this Eastern White Cedar in a Nao Tokutake hexagon pot! There were already a few spots where it was digging in, but I got it just in time. What little marks there are will grow out in no time.

Can’t fall asleep at the wheel this time of year.
