InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit We bring people of many faiths together to work toward a harmonious community based on our highest and best values.

Join us in our efforts towards conciliation, education, and connection. The InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit is a faith-based civic organization made up of visionary religious and lay leaders of many faiths whose shared values compel them to work toward a community that lives together in harmony. We offer many enriching programs to our community. BRIDGING TO BELONGING: A COMMUNITY VALUES PROJECT
Our latest program, Bridging to Belonging: A Community Values Project, seeks to (re)ground all of us in the values that inform our lives and bring us closer to the Beloved Community. Through small discussion groups of diverse community members, who, led by our trained moderators, come together in a safe space to share their individual stories, and learn about one another. Participants move from storytelling to dialogue to collaboration over a three-session unit. RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY JOURNEYS
A unique, immersive interfaith educational experience for hundreds of Tri-County area middle school students. Students learn differences are okay and not to be feared, and that learning about people of different religions, ethnic groups, and races can offset negative stereotypes. RDJ incorporates the National Council for the Social Studies College, Career and Civic Life (C3) Framework and enhances Michigan Department of Education Grade Level Content Expectations for the study of World Religions in 7th grade. Journeys are underway for the 2022-23 school year. WORLD SABBATH OF RELIGIOUS RECONCILIATION
The mission of the World Sabbath is to teach our diverse population in Metro Detroit that the work of building a community of justice, equality, respect, and peace is a calling we all share – all of us, no matter what our faith tradition might be. Featuring a Children’s Procession of Peace, this annual program developed 21 years ago, highlights that God is a God of peace and that all faiths are called upon to build a world of tolerance and justice. Most importantly, we are impacting our children, our teens, and our young adults. Our World Sabbath processional includes children of many faith traditions, proudly waving the peace banners they decorated themselves. These children come together to sing the song “We Are Children of Peace.” Each year, we honor the World Sabbath Peacemaker Award to someone who is making a difference in the interfaith world, bringing people together to build community. RELIGIOUS LEADERS FORUM
The Religious Leaders Forum of Metropolitan Detroit is a gathering of diverse senior faith leaders who believe that the significant moral and social values of their respective religions are important considerations for our entire community. They share an unshakeable belief that the grace of God is abundant in our community. Since 2010, Forum participants have met quarterly to foster mutual respect and to seek ways that their collective influence might help the metropolitan Detroit community to thrive and prosper. They have focused on such issues as literacy, household energy/warmth and the moral imperative of providing water to all households. EXPLORING RELIGIOUS LANDSCAPES AND “ASK A…”
Many of us do not have the opportunity to learn first-hand about religions other than our own, which can lead to misinformation and stereotyping. Exploring Religious Landscapes and “Ask a …” enable participants to learn about specific religious beliefs and practices directly from their adherents. Programs for Exploring Religious Landscapes have featured individual panels of Muslim and Hindu women and youth, and perspectives on women’s image in Christianity.

“Ask a …” features several individuals from a specific religious group who answer audience questions about their faith and customs. The atmosphere is friendly, open and informal. Recent programs have included "Ask a Latter-day Saint", "Ask a Sikh", and "Ask a Jewish Person". 🕊️ Faith in Action. Unity in Purpose.

What does it look like when people of different faiths come together for a shared purpose?

This week, faith leaders from across Metro Detroit gathered at Gesu Church for Vigil for Voting: Praying for the Safety of the Election, sponsored by the Religious Leaders Forum of Metropolitan Detroit.

Representing diverse religious traditions, participants came together in prayer and solidarity, united by a shared commitment to peace, dignity, and the safety of our democratic process.

💙 We're especially proud to see several IFLC board members and staff among the faith leaders participating in this meaningful gathering. Their presence reflects the commitment to interfaith understanding, relationship-building, and community leadership that guides our work.

At the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, we believe that courage is more than having difficult conversations. It's about building relationships, finding common ground, and putting our shared values into action.

We don't have to share the same beliefs to share a commitment to peace, respect, and understanding.

🎨 When Words Aren't Enough, Art Can Help Us Connect.

In a time when political differences can feel overwhelming, how do we create space to listen, reflect, and understand one another?

We're pleased to share an upcoming community event that reflects values at the heart of IFLC's mission: compassion, courageous conversations, and building bridges across differences.

The Weight of the Divide: An Evening of Art, Listening, and Support invites people of all political perspectives to come together for an interactive experience exploring the emotional impact of today's political climate through art and meaningful connection.

Led by art therapists Dr. Bethany Baker and Dr. Shazia Siddiqi, this gathering offers an opportunity to express what may be difficult to put into words, listen to others, and find connection through a shared creative experience.

City of Troy Mayor Ethan Baker will also participate, creating art and listening alongside community members.

💙 Why are we sharing this?

At the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, we believe that courage isn't always about speaking up. Sometimes, it's about creating space for others to be heard.

Building belonging doesn't require us to agree on everything. It begins with empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to see the humanity in one another.

✨ No art experience necessary.
🤝 Open to all political perspectives.
👨‍👩‍👧 Children and youth welcome with a parent or guardian.
📝 RSVP required.

We encourage our community to explore this opportunity to listen, reflect, and connect across differences.

Join us for a powerful, interactive experience where we process the emotional weight of today's political climate.

🌸 Happy Navratri to all who celebrate! 🪷

Navratri, meaning "nine nights," started yesterday and is a vibrant Hindu festival honoring the Divine Feminine and celebrating the power of strength, courage, and compassion.

Throughout these nine nights, devotees honor Goddess Durga and other forms of the Divine Feminine through prayer, fasting, music, dance, and community gatherings. The festival reminds us of the enduring triumph of good over evil and the importance of inner strength, wisdom, and spiritual renewal.

✨ At the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, we recognize that learning about one another's sacred traditions helps build bridges of understanding and belonging.

Navratri's celebration of courage and compassion offers a meaningful connection to our shared commitment to building peaceful communities. It reminds us that courage isn't only found in overcoming challenges, but also in choosing kindness, standing up for others, and embracing our shared humanity.

As we reflect on October's theme of Peace, may we be inspired to carry these values into our everyday lives—creating spaces where everyone feels respected, valued, and connected.

🪷 Wishing our Hindu neighbors and friends a joyful and meaningful Navratri!

🌿 Indigenous Peoples Day: The Courage to Listen. The Commitment to Learn.

Did you know Michigan is home to 12 federally recognized Tribal Nations, each with its own distinct history, culture, traditions, and sovereign government?

Today, we honor the rich histories, living cultures, and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples whose communities have shaped—and continue to shape—the lands we call home.

Indigenous Peoples Day is more than a moment of recognition. It is an invitation to listen, learn, and deepen our understanding of the people and communities around us.

At the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, we believe that building stronger communities begins with curiosity, respect, and the courage to connect across differences.

💚 Our Courage Challenge: Take time to learn about one of Michigan's 12 federally recognized Tribal Nations. Listen to Indigenous voices, explore their histories, and discover ways to support Indigenous-led initiatives.

Because belonging begins with recognition, understanding grows through listening, and lasting connections are built through respect.

🌿 Swipe through to learn more about Michigan's Tribal Nations and how we can honor Indigenous peoples—not just today, but every day.
