🦋 As we remember Dolly Parton, we're reflecting on the extraordinary literacy legacy she leaves behind.

Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, more than 332 million books have been gifted to children, helping families build home libraries and inspiring a love of reading from an early age. Founded in 1995, the program provides free books to children from birth to age five, making stories and opportunities accessible to families around the world.

At Bookstock, we share that same belief in the power of books. When children have books at home, they have the opportunity to discover new worlds, grow their imaginations, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Like the butterflies in today's tribute, Dolly's impact continues to spread far beyond the pages of a book, reaching generations of young readers and helping imaginations take flight.

One of the best things about Bookstock is never knowing what you’ll discover.

Every year, thousands of used books and other media come together at Bookstock, and for collector Dan Freidus, it’s also become an important place to find Jewish community cookbooks — books that might otherwise be overlooked or forgotten.

As Detroit Jewish News recently shared, Dan has spent years searching Bookstock for these special community-published cookbooks, preserving recipes and stories from Jewish communities across the country. What may look like an ordinary spiral-bound cookbook on a Bookstock table can actually be a snapshot of a synagogue, sisterhood, school or Jewish organization, and a record of the people who made up that community.

We’re especially proud that Bookstock is part of this story. It’s a wonderful example of how used books can find new readers, new homes and, sometimes, an entirely new purpose.
