Sometimes we don't know something's a trigger until we, you know, KNOW it's a trigger. Until it comes right down on top of us & helpfully informs us "HELLO TAM TRIGGERING AS HELL TO YOU."

No shame. PTSD doesn't come with a user's manual.

We don't know some things until we do.

A particular trigger for lots of complex trauma survivors is being observed. Being watched — or even noticed was often a precursor to punishment once upon a time.

Secrecy, anonymity, or functional invisibility was often the only "safety" we felt.

A miserable skillset survivors of s*xual abuse have often developed is pretending to enjoy a s*xual experience— both to placate the other person(s) involved, & to make the experience likely to end faster.

It's a skillset not unrelated to dissociation & depersonalization.
