October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the talents, contributions, and potential of people with disabilities in the workplace.

At the Blue Lotus Center, our Neurodiversity Apprenticeship Program is creating meaningful employment opportunities where neurodivergent adults can learn new skills, grow in confidence, build friendships, and feel genuinely accepted for who they are.

Through hands-on conservation work, mentoring, professional development, and teamwork, our apprentices are discovering their strengths and becoming empowered employees and community leaders. They aren’t simply learning how to do a job; they are experiencing the pride, purpose, and sense of belonging that meaningful employment can provide.

When people are given the right support and the opportunity to shine, everyone benefits. Together, we are building a workplace where different ways of thinking are recognized, respected, and valued.

There is a new arrival of a Cortland Apple tree planted in the Legacy Orchard. When it was picked up from Johnson's Nursery, it had 4 bright red apples which was a tasty surprise treat. The Cortland Apple flowers mid-late season and will serve as a pollinator (to produce fruit) to the Honeycrisp and Golden Delicious trees that were planted in the spring

Our friends from St. Catherine CommonsMemory Care visited last week and boy, did they have fun!
Volunteer host Gary Walsh was a true superhero, helping guests get in and out of the water safely. When a few of the ladies decided they wanted to try biking, Gary jumped right in. He didn’t just help them onto one of our adaptive companion bikes, he pedaled them around the grounds, too!
Gary truly became their companion for the day. When it was time for a group photo, one of the ladies called out, “Not without my guy!” Of course, she was referring to Gary!
What a beautiful testament to the purpose and joy that volunteering creates. Thank you, Gary, for going above and beyond and making their visit truly unforgettable!
