Rescuing Children - Training Leaders. Director Jerry McNally Jerry and Susy McNally founded Living Hope International in 1999.

Originally from Minnesota, they had lived in Oaxaca, Mexico for seven years, planting churches and developing leadership in remote, indigenous villages before moving to Puebla, Mexico in 1994. There, an encounter with a boy living on the streets changed the course of their ministry as they felt God challenging their hearts and their faith. This led them to begin Esperanza Viva Youth Home in Puebla, a ministry dedicated to rescuing and restoring abandoned children in 1994. Esperanza Viva expanded to open its second youth home in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in 2006. In addition to Esperanza Viva Youth Homes, Jerry also founded and is director of Nations Church, which opened its doors in 2003. In 2003, the McNallys also founded La Viña School of Ministry to train young people who have a desire to serve the Lord. Most recently, in 2013, the McNally’s founded LHIMissions which focusing on “Helping youth around the world to experience the heart of missions in a hurting world.”

Before arriving at Esperanza Viva at age 12, Josué Miguel’s childhood was filled with hardship, heavy labor, and difficult environments. Behind in school and lacking direction, his life completely shifted when he entered a supportive community grounded in faith, order, and opportunity.

From a simple photography activity that unlocked a lifelong passion, to catching up on years of missed education and graduating from college, Josué’s story proves that God’s love changes everything. Today, at 34, he serves in the Marketing & Design Department at Esperanza Viva—standing as a living testament to the kids who come after him that their past does not define their future.

This week, we saw the answer to a prayer that was made more than 40 years ago: the inauguration of the first church building in Oaxaca. A prayer for a permanent place where people could gather, worship, and hear the Gospel has now become a reality, and we’re full of expectation for all that God will continue to do in the lives of the people in this community.

From living on the streets at nine years old to now serving as a mentor to the caregivers and boys at Esperanza Viva Youth Home, Víctor’s life is a powerful testimony of full-circle restoration. Through the faith and character built growing up at Esperanza Viva, he was able to heal from childhood trauma and build a life with purpose. Today, he is giving back by guiding the next generation.

Keeping brothers and sisters together has always meant so much to us, and there’s something beautiful about seeing that, more than 30 years later, siblings are still growing up together at Esperanza Viva.
