What connects a 27-year-old prisoner and a mom of two little ones? A retired business owner and a high school dropout? An empty nester and an ex-con?
On paper, nothing. Different zip codes. Different schedules. Different stories. The world looks at that lineup and sees no thread, no through line, no reason any of them should share a pew, a Bible study, a meal, or a life.
The world doesn't understand it. It's a mystery to them.
"…the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Colossians 1:26-27)
Christ in you. Christ in her. Christ in him. That is the thread. That is the only thread strong enough to tie a prisoner to a young mom, a retiree to a dropout, an empty nester to a man just released from two decades inside. The Spirit of the living God indwelling ordinary people and stitching them together into one body that the world cannot explain.
And here is the beautiful part: that mystery is not meant to be admired from a distance. It is meant to be lived out. The same Spirit that connects us is the same Spirit that sends us. Into prisons. Into recovery groups. Into nursery rooms and tutoring centers and hospital hallways and back porches with neighbors who don't yet know His name.
Ministry is not a calling reserved for the polished or the credentialed. It is the natural overflow of Christ in you. The 27-year-old prisoner and the mom of two little ones really do belong to the same family. The retired business owner and the high school dropout really are brothers. The empty nester can offer something the ex-con needs, and the ex-con can offer something the empty nester needs. This is the beauty of the gospel.
This is your reminder that the church the world cannot explain is the church the world most desperately needs to see today in you. Click the link to see how you could fit into this puzzle: https://jumpstartsc.org/
