Restoration is never a solo journey. It takes a community willing to show up, again and again, for people the world has given up on.

Generous donors have issued a challenge: $1,000,000 committed to match every gift made to JUMPSTART SC, dollar for dollar, through the end of this year!

Every gift you give will be doubled in its impact. Proceeds go towards helping individuals have housing by helping us finish the village, as well as start Alumni Housing. We are only 3 houses away from finishing the Village!

Food does more than fill a plate. It builds confidence and teaches skills that lead to real jobs. It brings people from every background together around one table. Chef Roger calls it "the kitchen table effect."

Roger also takes us inside the JUMPSTART SC Culinary Arts Program and JUMPSTART SC Catering & Events, where participants gain hands on experience, build their resumes, and prepare for a future they can be proud of. We had a BLAST at last month's Celebration Day!

This is a great way to meet our new arrivals as they experience Restoration Village for the first time! Folks started rolling in around 11, homemade pizza at 1, and by 3 it was ice cream and games. In the evening we did a BBQ sauce tasting and rating with good conversation around the tables, John Frady shared with us, and we closed out in prayer. Yes, there were strong opinions about the sauce. 🔥

If you know Melissa at all, you know she's the picture of joy. Not the temporary kind that comes and goes with circumstances, but a true, settled joy that can only come from God. It's why we're always moved by her story.

At twenty, Melissa believed she had thrown her whole future away. She'd survived a brutal childhood spent in survival mode, and then came one irreversible moment protecting her son that seemed to seal everything. Hope for a better future was never in the cards for her. At least, that's what she'd been told, and what she came to believe.

But that lie came straight from the enemy. And prison was not the end of her story.

Through faith and the JUMPSTART SC community, Melissa found her way back. A place to stay. Food to eat. People willing to walk beside her, step by step.

Today, she says it plainly: "Even in all that, God kept me."

And she'll tell you again, in case you missed it: "I am still saying praise the Lord. At my lowest, He was there."

That's the God we serve. That's what restoration looks like. 🙏

"People don't always return to prison because they want to. Society pushes them right back toward it."

Professor Sylvia Hayes didn't set out to become a voice for prison ministry; she found it through a series of doors she didn't know were connected. What kept her coming back was the small group: the place where masks come off on both sides of the circle, where honest stories build real community.

When she married Chris, who'd been released from prison years earlier, she learned the barriers firsthand: jobs that fell through and landlords who said no over a felony from two decades ago. That's exactly why she believes a clean slate isn't really clean without people willing to advocate for you.

Her story is a reminder that the men inside our program aren't lost causes. They're people hungry for community, eager to grow, and ready to rebuild.

"The great thing about rebirth is that the only thing that changes is everything." Meet Robert. 👇

A Charleston entrepreneur with a thriving business, a family, and a name people knew. Then came four surgeries, opioid painkillers, and what he calls "a slow fade in the wrong direction." His addiction cost him everything, including his wife, Casey.

BUT GOD.

At his lowest point, Robert cried out. Four years behind bars became a launching pad instead of a dead end. From his prison cell, Robert started writing to Casey, letter after letter, owning the damage and letting her see the man God was rebuilding. It took years. She wasn't sure at first. But as she watched him stay on the path, she saw that God was working. They remarried, and not long after, welcomed a baby that almost didn't exist.
