The May meeting of the Kate Barry chapter of DAR was filled with celebration as various awards and recognitions were presented.

Terri Manning was presented with the Record Keepers Cup Award by Chapter Regent Dianne Stone Schwendimann for both District II AND for the state of SC!

We welcomed four new members, inducted by Savannah Elizabeth Joyce, Registrar, and Dianne Schwendimann, Regent: Elizabeth Loftis, Elaine Coffman, Hillary Potter Brock and Kristen Welch.

Chapter Registrar Elizabeth Joyce, Kristen Welch, Vice President of the SC Archival Association, Regent Dianne Schwendimann, and Georgia Greer of the Celebrating Women Committee were presented with the “Friends of the Archive Award”.

We had a “Member for Member” recognition at the May meeting, featuring members LaDonna Scott, Teresa Murray, Terri Manning, Barbara Stowell, Mary Tew, Karen Puckett, Elizabeth Joyce, Beth Cutshall, Lucie O'Quinn Brant and Dianne Schwendimann.

Lastly, our May meeting featured a wonderful speaker, LaShonda Prim, along with Snow, her golden doodle service dog. Lashonda spoke about helping veterans reclaim their lives one dog at a time. Cathy Kamieniecki (not pictured) spoke on behalf of Service Dogs for Veterans.

Congratulations to our award winners and to our chapter for a fabulous year!

On March 17, 2026, the Kate Barry Chapter, DAR, had the distinct honor of hosting a special program, "Celebrating Women: Vietnam Veterans in Nursing," featuring Colonel Darlene M. Amendolair, U.S. Army Nurse Corps (Retired).

Colonel Amendolair shared powerful stories from her time as a young operating room nurse in Vietnam. Her firsthand account of delivering lifesaving trauma and surgical care under pressure served as a moving reminder of the courage displayed by women on the front lines.

Her dedication to service didn't end with her military retirement. Dr. Amendolair went on to earn a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership and spent over 20 years inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals as an educator at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

To conclude the afternoon, the Kate Barry Chapter was proud to present Retired Lieutenant Colonel Mary K. Williams and Dr. Amendolair with the Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin and a Certificate of Appreciation.

Thank you both for your lifetime of service and leadership, and Dr. Amendolair, for sharing your incredible journey with us.

On Tuesday, the Kate Barry DAR chapter inducted three new members: Sue Mobley, Libby Partington and Erica McCarthy.
