🚨 KARATE UPDATE: THE HOSTAGE NEGOTIATIONS ARE GOING SURPRISINGLY WELL. 🚨

Karate—the long-time community cat who returned after disappearing for a week with a severely degloved foot—is officially accepting help from Brianna.

And by “accepting help,” we mean she is allowing foot soaks while staring at everyone like she is documenting every violation for her attorney. 😂

This is HUGE for a cat who has lived outside for years and traditionally considers human interaction an unnecessary government overreach.

Thankfully, nothing in her foot was broken and she still has all of her toes. Now we are focused on controlling infection, protecting the damaged tissue and giving the foot every opportunity to heal.

Brianna—our co-director, resident wound-care specialist and Stanley’s mom—is handling Karate’s ongoing spa treatments.

⭐ Luxury accommodations
⭐ Personal attendant
⭐ Warm foot baths
⭐ Medications
⭐ Unlimited meals
⭐ Absolutely no appreciation whatsoever

Karate remains deeply offended by the entire arrangement, but she is cooperating, accepting comfort and proving that somewhere beneath all that feral rage is a tiny cat who knows Brianna is trying to help her.

She would like everyone to know this does NOT make them friends.

Her lawyer made us include that. 😂❤️

🥋 KARATE NEEDS US. ❤️‍🩹

And before you look at that sweet little face and think she looks innocent… her name is Karate for a reason. 😂

Karate is a feral/community cat I trapped and TNR’d about 5–6 years ago in my old neighborhood. When I moved, my son stayed in the house and continued feeding the community cats, so Karate has continued showing up for meals and living her best child-free outdoor life.

Until recently.

My son noticed Karate disappeared for about a week. When she finally came back, she was limping badly.

Something had gotten ahold of her, and her foot was mangled. 😭

We got her to Pet Resource Center Spartanburg County, where Dr. Dowdy anesthetized her, thoroughly examined the injury and took X-rays.

Considering what her foot looks like, we got some AMAZING news:

🙌 NOTHING IS BROKEN.
🐾 SHE STILL HAS ALL OF HER TOES.

Her foot is severely degloved, meaning there is significant loss of skin and soft tissue. There is some concern that she may have the beginning of a bone infection, but she has received antibiotics and we’re going to be monitoring her very closely.

For a foot that looks this awful, we actually have a lot to be hopeful about.

Now comes the hard part: wound care, healing and convincing a feral cat that all of these humans messing with her foot are actually trying to help her. 😅

Thankfully, Karate is going into the care of Brianna — our co-director, resident wound specialist and Stanley’s mom. If you followed Stanley’s recovery, you already know Brianna has earned her unofficial wound-care degree approximately 47 times over. 😂❤️‍🩹

We also learned today that Karate is FIV positive.

And around here?

That is not a big deal. ❤️

FIV does not mean she can’t have a good life, and it certainly doesn’t change what we’re willing to do for her.

Since Karate was already anesthetized, we also got some overdue preventative care handled. She received her 3-year rabies vaccine and her second FVRCP.

Her first FVRCP?

Five or six years ago when I originally TNR’d her. 😂

Which brings me to something pretty incredible.

This girl has been CHILD-FREE for 5–6 YEARS. 💅🥋

Karate has never had a litter.

Think about that.

How many litters could one intact female cat have produced over the last 5–6 years?

Then how many kittens could those kittens have produced?

Instead, one trap and one spay surgery years ago meant Karate has spent all this time simply being Karate — eating her Friskies, avoiding humans and contributing exactly:

ZERO KITTENS.

That is why we trap.

That is why we spay and neuter.

That is why TNR matters. ❤️

Today we’re getting to help the exact same cat we helped all those years ago.

A HUGE thank-you to Spartanburg PRC and Dr. Dowdy for taking care of our spicy girl today and giving this foot a fighting chance. ❤️‍🩹

Karate has also lost a significant amount of weight, and her coat is looking pretty rough after whatever she’s been through.

Fortunately, she has made her recovery diet preferences very clear:

FRISKIES. 😂

Nothing fancy. No Michelin stars required. The woman wants Friskies.

❤️ If you’d like to help Karate recover, our donation and wishlist links will be in the comments. Friskies donations are especially appreciated because we need to get some groceries into this skinny girl!

⚠️ Her foot is extremely graphic, so I am NOT putting those pictures in the main post. I’ll put the injury photos in the comments for anyone who wants to see exactly what Karate is recovering from.

Every comment, reaction and share also helps more people see Karate’s story — and, more importantly, helps us show people what one TNR surgery can accomplish years down the road.

Now heal that foot, Karate. 🥋🐾❤️‍🩹

Please show this to more than 13 people. I did not get this handsome for nothing.

It’s almost Friday, THANK GOD. I’ve worked zero hours this week and somehow I am exhausted. Unfortunately, management needs me.

🥫 ASHLEY FORGOT WISHLIST WEDNESDAY.

Meanwhile, the kittens have entered their competitive-eating era and we are almost out of Fancy Feast Kitten. They eat breakfast, second breakfast, then file a formal complaint alleging starvation.

Unfortunately, they’re adorable. Their demands have been approved. Send Fancy Feast. 😂❤️

It isn’t until October 31, but apparently Ashley has decided to spend the next two months turning her house into a distribution center.

🐾 WE’RE ACCEPTING NEW COMMUNITY FOSTER KITTENS! 🐾

Found friendly kittens outside but need help getting them vetted and adopted? Our Community Foster Program may be able to help!

This program allows kittens to enter our rescue while remaining in your home as their community foster. It gives them a safe place to grow while keeping our limited foster homes available for emergencies, bottle babies, and cats with nowhere else to go.

South Carolina Community Cat Project provides:

🐾 Spay or neuter
🐾 Age-appropriate FVRCP vaccines
🐾 Rabies vaccine when old enough
🐾 Microchip
🐾 Deworming and flea prevention
🐾 Medical guidance and approved veterinary care
🐾 Adoption promotion, screening, and placement

Community fosters provide:

🐾 A safe indoor space until adoption
🐾 Food, litter, and daily care
🐾 Transportation to scheduled appointments
🐾 Weekly weights, photos, and updates
🐾 Help introducing the kittens to potential adopters

We are primarily accepting friendly, weaned kittens approximately 6–12 weeks old. We cannot accept pregnant cats or bottle babies through this program.

Please understand that enrollment does not mean the kittens can immediately move into one of our foster homes. We operate at full capacity, so you must be prepared to continue caring for them until they are adopted or another placement becomes available.

If you’ve already stepped up to help kittens in your community, we’d love to help you finish their journey from rescue to forever home. 🩷

Apply through our Community Foster Program intake form. https://www.sccommunitycatproject.org/community-foster-program

🚨 THE SNACK PACK IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND I NEED EVERYONE TO REMAIN CALM. 🚨

We have somehow ended up with three extremely adorable snacks and unfortunately none of them are edible. 😭

🐟 GOLDFISH — BOY
Orange, handsome, sweet, and sporting ears approximately 47% of his total body mass.

🧀 CHEEZIT — BOY
Another orange baby because apparently the universe decided we needed a family-size box. Look at that FACE.

🍫 COCOA — GIRL
The only girl and the chocolate portion of this snack assortment. Tiny black house panther. Huge eyes. Absolutely precious.

All three are fully vetted and ready for their forever homes — spayed/neutered, age-appropriately vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and on flea prevention. ❤️

You can adopt one snack.

You can adopt two snacks.

You can adopt the entire snack aisle.

We support all three choices. 😂

📝 Adoption application required

Please share these babies because LOOK AT THEM. This should not require convincing. 😭

🚨 WE NEED KITTEN FORMULA ASAP! 🚨

We recently had to dispose of all the Breeder’s Edge formula we had on hand, and now we have FOUR bottle babies in our care with 1 can of formula left 😭

We urgently need KMR to keep these babies fed. 🍼🐱

KMR is available on our Amazon and Chewy wishlists. If you’re able to send even one can, it would make an immediate difference.

⬇️ Links to donate are in the comments below!

Thank you for helping us keep these tiny bellies full. ❤️
