Beacon Place Beacon Place is a community center in Waukegan, IL that delivers programs to children and families.

Beacon Place is a community center in southeast Waukegan with programs for kids and adults that allow them to see a path toward their own brighter tomorrow by building the life skills they need, to achieve the dreams that they want. Established in the fall of 2012 by a group of dedicated and inspired individuals who recognized a significant need in southeast Waukegan and decided to do something ab

out it. In the spring of 2013, the founders of Beacon Place acquired an abandoned home at 603 McAlister in Waukegan that they envisioned would become a beacon to the neighbors, becoming a local community center that would deliver programs focused on food and nutrition, overall health, academic support and life skill development. With the belief in the power of neighbors helping neighbors, these volunteers listened closely to the needs of the families in their community and brought them programs and support that have allowed the people of the community to see a path to new opportunities in their lives.

☀️ It has been a busy few weeks at Beacon Place as we prepare for our Summer Programs starting on Monday, June 15th!☀️

Day 2 of Summer Internship training focused on building the skills and confidence needed for a successful summer at Beacon Place! Interns continued learning about program expectations, volunteer engagement, and strategies for creating positive experiences for the children and families we serve. We cannot run our summer programs without our Summer Interns!

We’re excited to see this team grow, learn, and make an impact throughout the summer.💙

Today, we’re proud to spotlight a few of the kind, compassionate, and generous volunteers who make a difference every day at Beacon Place: Lety, Sujitha, Ritesh, Abril, and Katie.💫

These dedicated individuals support our students across both Education & Enrichment (K–8th) and LAUNCH (9–12th) programs—assisting with instruction, partnering with program managers, and stepping in wherever help is needed. They consistently show up ready to contribute, working side by side with our staff and students to create a positive, supportive environment.
