As of May 1st 2026 the federal government put in place new rules and regulations about eligibility requirements for the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) that have effected 250,00+ Illinoisans. As a response Illinois has worked with local organizations to provide some assistance in the form of the Families Receiving Emergency Support for Hunger (FRESH) temporary program to help relieve the strain the change in benefits.
