Tulku Jamyang Rinpoche and Lama Sonam Tsering Rinpoche gathered with sangha during an auspicious retreat around 2000–2001 , a beautiful moment of shared practice and devotion.

Some 25 years later, these precious teachers continue to help make such gatherings possible. This Sunday, we begin one of the most auspicious retreats ever held at Pema Ösel Ling: the Rinchen Terdzö with Tulku Thadral Rinpoche.

✨ Rinchen Terdzö: A Rare Opportunity to Receive Guru Rinpoche’s Treasure Teachings
November 1, 2026–February 20, 2027 ✨

Some opportunities on the Dharma path are exceptionally rare. Beginning this Sunday, Tulku Thadral Rinpoche will bestow the complete Rinchen Terdzö empowerments and oral transmissions at Pema Ösel Ling—an extraordinary opportunity to receive one of the Nyingma tradition’s most extensive and sacred transmissions.

The Rinchen Terdzö, “Precious Treasury of Hidden Teachings,” gathers Guru Rinpoche’s treasure teachings into a vast treasury of blessings and methods for awakening. Compiled by Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye with the encouragement of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, it preserves precious lineages once in danger of disappearing, carrying them forward for future generations.

Requested many years ago by Lama Sonam Rinpoche, Tulku Jamyang Rinpoche, Drubpon Pema Rigdzin, and our sangha, these transmissions follow years of Rinpoche’s preparation and retreat. Now, this long-held aspiration is becoming a reality.

Please join us—in person or online, for the full transmission or the portions you can attend. Chinese translation will be available for all sessions. Register today, including for online attendance, so we can prepare to welcome you.

✨ Beginning This Morning: Namchak Pudri Vajrakilaya Retreat ✨

Join Tulku Thadral Rinpoche at Pema Osel Ling, in person or online, beginning today, October 26, at 8:00 AM PDT for five days of Vajrakilaya practice, preparing the way for the Rinchen Terdzö.

Vajrakilaya is the wrathful form of Vajrasattva, whose practice is a powerful means of purifying obscurations and removing obstacles on the path. This retreat follows the extensive Namchak Pudri sadhana revealed by Dudjom Lingpa and arranged by Dudjom Rinpoche, and includes the offering of a bumtsog—100,000 tsok offerings.

Taking place October 26–30, this gathering offers an opportunity to practice together with the aspiration that obstacles be cleared and auspicious conditions established for the Rinchen Terdzö empowerments and oral transmissions beginning November 1. May the merit of these practices benefit all beings.

🔥 Namchak Pudri Vajrakilaya Retreat Begins Tomorrow 🔥

Join together October 26–30 at Pema Osel Ling, in person or online, for five days of Vajrakilaya practice beginning tomorrow at 8:00 AM Pacific.

Namchak Pudri, “The Meteoric Iron Razor which Vanquishes Māra,” is an extensive Vajrakilaya practice revealed by Dudjom Lingpa and arranged by Dudjom Rinpoche. Through this powerful practice, we work to cut through obstacles and obscurations and gather merit for the benefit of all beings.

At the direction of Lama Sonam Rinpoche and Tulku Thadral Rinpoche, we will undertake this retreat to support the successful bestowal of the upcoming Rinchen Terdzö empowerments and transmissions. The retreat will also include bumtsog—the collective recitation of 100,000 concise feast offerings.

✨ October & November at Pema Ösel Ling ✨

During the final week of October, join us online or in person for the Vajrakilaya Namchak Pudri Retreat, October 26–30, in the leadup to the Rinchen Terdzö. This five-day retreat includes bumtsok—the collective accumulation of 100,000 feast offerings—to gather merit, purify negativities, and support the successful bestowal of these precious transmissions.

On November 1, Tulku Thadral Rinpoche will begin conferring the Rinchen Terdzö Empowerments & Oral Transmissions, continuing through February 20, 2027. Compiled by Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye, this vast treasury preserves the revealed teachings of generations of treasure revealers.

November highlights include:

🌸 Nov. 1–8: Beginning with Mindroling Vajrasattva, followed by Sh*tro—the 100 Peaceful & Wrathful Deities—and combined Three Roots empowerments of Lama, Yidam, and Dakini. Oral transmissions begin with Guru Rinpoche’s life stories and lineage histories.

🌸 Nov. 8–21: Lama & Guru Rinpoche cycles from numerous treasure traditions, including Gathering of Vidyadharas, Dispelling All Obstacles, and the Heart Essence of the Deathless Lake-Born One.

🌸 Nov. 11: Monthly Ngondro Teaching, continuing “Calling the Lama from Afar,” a prayer expressing devotion to the lama and invoking the blessings of the lineage.

🌸 Nov. 23–30: Guru Yoga through the Seven-Line Prayer, including empowerments for Guru Rinpoche’s Eight Manifestations and other forms, followed by Wrathful Guru cycles from several treasure traditions.

✨ Throwback Thursday: Lama Tharchin Rinpoche with phurba 🌸

As we prepare for our Namchak Pudri Vajrakilaya Retreat beginning this Monday, we’re looking back at this joyful photograph of Lama Tharchin Rinpoche playfully holding a phurba. His warmth, humor, and dedication to the Dharma continue to inspire us as we carry on the practice traditions he nurtured at Pema Ösel Ling.

Praised by generations of mahasiddhas as the most powerful form of purification practice, Vajrakilaya is the wrathful form of Vajrasattva and Guru Rinpoche’s own personal yidam. With three heads, nine eyes, and six arms, Vajrakilaya rolls a meteorite phurba between his two central hands while engulfed in wisdom fire.

The phurba is a three-sided ritual dagger symbolizing the transformation of ignorance, attachment, and aversion into wisdom. In Vajrakilaya practice, it expresses the power of enlightened compassion to cut through obstacles and obscurations.
