The Vajrayana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and transmitting the spiritual, artistic, and cultural traditions of Tibetan Buddhism in the West—especially the Dudjom Tersar lineage of the Nyingma school. Founded by Lama Tharchin Rinpoche at the request of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, the Foundation upholds this living wisdom tradition through the guidance

of qualified lineage teachers who embody the teachings they transmit. At Pema Osel Ling, our retreat center in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, we carry out this goal through daily pujas, group and individual retreats, a three-year retreat program, and ongoing mentorship and teachings that support practitioners on their path. These efforts sustain the Dudjom Tersar lineage and preserve the traditional arts and culture of Tibet on land blessed by generations of masters. Our mission is to make the study and practice of the Buddha Dharma accessible to all who seek wisdom and compassion, to preserve Tibetan Buddhist culture and sacred arts, and to support practitioners in integrating these qualities into everyday life for the benefit of all beings. 🙏 Refuge 🙏

Taking refuge begins with recognizing the suffering of samsara and turning toward the path of liberation, with the highest motivation of attaining enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

“The purpose of going for refuge is as follows. Those who have inferior capacities take refuge from fear of the lower realms, to achieve happiness in this life, and to take rebirth in the future as a god or human being. Those of intermediate capacities take refuge from fear of the suffering of cyclic existence and the wish to attain the personal goal of the state of peace and bliss. Those of superior capacities take refuge with the sole aspiration to achieve the state of Buddha that does not abide in either of the two extremes of remaining in samsara or the state of peace. In relation to the purpose of self, they attain the state of enlightenment without abiding in samsara, and in relation to the purpose of others, they do not abide only in enlightenment but vow to remain in samsara for the benefit of others.”
—A Cascading Waterfall of Nectar, Pg. 61.

We warmly invite you to join us for puja at Pema Ösel Ling, in person or online. Come practice together, connect with the lineage, and dedicate the merit for the benefit of all beings.

🌸🔥 Special Sh*tro K**a Empowerment from the Guhyagarbha Ta**ra | Sept. 15–17

Tulku Thadral Rinpoche has graciously offered to bestow the empowerment of the 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities from the K**a, or long oral, lineage.

Connected with the Guhyagarbha Ta**ra—the principal Mahayoga ta**ra of the Nyingma tradition—this empowerment is an important source for the Bardo teachings and later Sh*tro practices revealed within the treasure tradition. The Guhyagarbha Ta**ra is also connected with the view, meditation, and conduct of Great Perfection Atiyoga.

The K**a Sh*tro Empowerment is elaborate and rarely bestowed, making this a special opportunity to receive it from a fully qualified lineage holder of the Nyingma tradition. Rinpoche will also give the lungs, or reading transmissions, for the peaceful, wrathful, and combined sadhanas of the Sh*tro mandalas.

📍 Sept. 15–17 at Pema Osel Ling
🏡 Residential, commuter, and online options
⏰ Recipients must attend every session; no partial attendance
💻 Online participation must take place in real time

✨ Join the Rinchen Terdzö: Nov. 1, 2026–Feb. 20, 2027 ✨

With Tulku Thadral Rinpoche
In person and online

The Rinchen Terdzö is one of the most treasured collections of teachings in the Nyingma tradition, bringing together the revealed treasures, or termas, of Guru Rinpoche. Receiving these empowerments and transmissions offers practitioners a rare opportunity to connect with these profound teachings and the unbroken lineage of great masters who have preserved them.

For many years, Lama Sonam Rinpoche, Tulku Jamyang Rinpoche, Drubpon Pema Rigdzin, and the Pema Osel Ling sangha have requested that Tulku Thadral Rinpoche bestow the Rinchen Terdzö at Pema Osel Ling. In preparation for this extraordinary event, Rinpoche has spent many years completing the necessary retreat practices.

Full, partial, and online participation are available, with Chinese-language translation offered for all sessions.

Registration is now open—explore the schedule and register today!
