Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Santa Cruz County Unitarian Universalism is a justice oriented faith practice that encourages individual and community spiritual growth and learning.

Our UU Fellowship celebrates together on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am online, services that incorporate varied formats that include sermons, songs, story-telling, dance, meditation, and open sharing. Sunday Services are the heart of community life when we come together to affirm each other as individuals and grow in our impact in the world. We are a welcoming community that affirms the inherent worth and dignity of every person (our first Principle). We are strongly justice oriented, engaging our efforts in promoting racial justice in our country, attending to each other and our greater community during the COVID pandemic. You are invited to join us at our next Sunday Service and to explore our website (www.uufscc.org) to learn more about us and our tradition. We look forward to meeting you and hearing about your unique spiritual journey that brings you here. THE LEGACIES WE HAVE INHERITED
Sunday, November 1, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

It is said that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us; that our current advantages are built upon the discoveries, the trial and error, and collective efforts of past generations. Some of these legacies have been a life-affirming blessing, some have been a tremendous burden. This morning, let us have a look at what we have inherited that is of such value we are willing to make a vow to promote it for the next seven generations. You are invited to bring a photo or an artifact of your beloved-departed for the altar.

IN OUR GENERATION
Sunday, October 25, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

Compliance, trauma and information overload can thwart attempts to show up as courageously “righteous” in the face of suffering. Today we explore both modern and ancient biblical sources for inspiration.

OFTEN TORN BUT ALWAYS HEALING

Sunday, October 18, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

Sometimes life sends us careening in a direction we didn’t choose and didn’t want. How can we find our way back to joy? Today we’ll look to the gentle, playful example of the Dalai Lama and the historical Buddha, who found ways to root and heal themselves and their communities again.

COURAGE IN THE TIME OF POSTMODERNITY
Sunday, October 11, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

Postmodern philosophy asserts that we humans inhabit different realities. Leftist in origin, postmodernism’s most recent incarnation enables the bullying rhetoric of the American right. This service will ask us to ponder what courage might mean in a world without a single, solid reality. Drawing on experimental psychology, Buddhist ethics, and 20th-century philosophy, we’ll be called to find a curious, compassionate and courageous form of action that leans into these uncertain, tumultuous times.

COLLECTIVE COURAGE
Sunday, October 4, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

On the news and in the movies, stories abound of brave individuals taking bold, dramatic risks to save the day. But what if the courage we need most today is collective courage?

HOPE IN HARD TIMES
Sunday, September 27, 2026
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

New beginnings start with hope. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote, “Everything that is done in this world is done by hope.” He described hope not as an estimate of probability but as a “moral discipline.” Hope can be challenging in times like these. While we don’t want to be uninformed, or in denial about the state of our world, neither do we want to be paralyzed by fear and despair. To work for change, we need the energy and stamina of hope. UUFSCC member Susan Springfield will explore ways we can support each other in finding, cultivating, and practicing hope.

BRING YOUR WONDER
Sunday, September 20, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

The Astronomer, Carl Sagan famously said that as humans, “…we are all star stuff,” referencing the fact that the atomic elements within our bodies were once forged in the cores of ancient stars. What an awe-inspiring beginning we had, long, long ago! In the Jewish faith, we are now in the days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which are known as the Days of Awe. The Days of Awe invite us to reflect on life cycles, endings, and beginnings. This service, led by Rev. Esther Wallace, invites us to dwell for a little while in the awe of beginnings and to remember that we are indeed star stuff!

WATER COMMUNION:
BLESSING THE BEGINNINGS

Sunday, September 13, 2026 - 10:00 a.m.
~ON SITE & ONLINE~

This year, our fellowship is beginning a series of experiments to learn how we can serve families with young children in our community. These experiments will take patience, curiosity, empathy on all sides, and a spirit of radical hospitality. And what better day to celebrate this new beginning than on our annual Water Communion Sunday? Today, you’re also invited to bring a small amount of water from somewhere special to you for our annual Water Communion ceremony. (Don’t worry, we’ll have extra for in-person participants in case you’re not able to bring your own.)
