Try Pie Try Pie empowers a diverse group of teen girls in life and leadership skills through meaningful work. The pies are then sold throughout our community.

We’re on track to bring the Cedar Valley more than 10,000 pies this season 🫣🎉
While teens keep pace most of the year, it’s been so fun to have volunteers hop in to help the girls hit the ground running at their after school shifts! With the help of pie sales and donations, Try Pie offers meaningful work all year long.
There’s still time to sign up to get in the kitchen this fall!

Taryn met her goal for September!! Taryn wanted to improve her time management skills. She completed her goal by building a schedule around school and work to find better balance.
It was hard to mange her time with the gym and homework because she wanted to dedicate time to school, but still exercise and both felt important. To achieve this goal, Taryn talked to her mentor and her dad and set this goal to give focus. Now she's figured out how to make the most of her time and manage her schedule to leave room for both of these priorities. Way to go Taryn!!

This September classroom workshop featured Susan Backes with teaching Car Buying! She taught the girls about safe websites to use when researching vehicles before purchasing them.

It's very important to research a car (mileage, accidents, # of drivers, how old, damage etc.) before buying and even before entering the dealership. You don't want to buy a car for an expensive price only to find out it costs a lot less than what was said.

It's important to pay attention to loan terms so you don't end up owing on a car that doesn't work or hold the value in a couple months or years. You also want to understand your insurance policy, you don't want to end up in an accident or having the car break down without having the coverage you need.

This workshop helped a lot of Try Pie students that are looking forward to buying their first cars learn information on how to buy a safe and reliable car! THANK YOU SUSAN!

Jessica met her goal for August!! Her challenge was to be on time for more shifts and push through full shifts. She worked hard to start communicating with managers, making sure she had clearly put in her availability that wouldn't conflict with her extracurriculars. "I felt tired, and it did take a lot of time and a lot of discipline to get myself here on time, but it's been rewarding."

Way to go Jessica for taking a step up and communicating your availability to follow through with your shifts!!

Credit Union came to last month's classroom workshop to teach about the importance of having building credit for loans and more.
We learned the importance of making payments to loans on time, to make note of how long it would take to fully pay off the loan, and the impact of making bi-weekly or frequent payments.

Heather and Justin informed the girls of crucial lessons needed now for after high school so we feel prepared later on in life. Thanks for helping to put us ahead of the game!

Haleigh was recently able to work with our friend Ana from Veridian to save for a car! She'll be saving from her paycheck towards a whopping $1000 in order to have that amount matched. This is such an incredible feat for our girls, especially in high school when several activities like sports, extracurriculars, and memorable events require traveling from place to place. Saving money towards a car in high school creates a strong foundation for further saving or purchasing a car in college!
