Haleigh was recently able to work with our friend Ana from Veridian to save for a car! She'll be saving from her paycheck towards a whopping $1000 in order to have that amount matched. This is such an incredible feat for our girls, especially in high school when several activities like sports, extracurriculars, and memorable events require traveling from place to place. Saving money towards a car in high school creates a strong foundation for further saving or purchasing a car in college!

The girls headed to Iowa State University earlier this month! These seniors were treated to a campus tour and were given insight on the historic buildings. Exploring campus gave them a better idea of what campus life is like, along with the cafeteria where they where given lunch.

Try Pie sets up these visits in preparation for the students considering going to college. Showing the different styles of campus and what they have to offer makes those goals feel real!

Kirsten met her August goal of working three trainer shifts during the Foundations program!
During these shifts she improved her own leadership skills along with building confidence as she taught the new girls how to operate in the kitchen.
Teaching the Foundations program teens taught her a lot about managing a constantly moving environment. Way to go, Kirsten!!

Finance Committee annual field trip!

Last week, our Teen Finance Committee went over how to do an asset audit! The team went over the definition of an asset, and noted the assets on the food truck (the freezer, truck, counters, etc). They then went on the truck and made sure they were there, and checked them off!

Thanks to Liz - our volunteer leading finance committee through asset audits, entering expenses into Quickbooks, and using Try Pie's big picture finances to support these teens in building skills.

These mentor / mentee pairs are GOLD! In the Futures Program, each teen gets paired with a mentor who supports her in setting goals and cheers her on throughout her time at Try Pie. During shifts, mentors pull girls out of the kitchen, sit down, catch up, and make plans. We couldn't be more grateful for the seven mentors who have cared so well for our seven grads!
