🍎 School Board Appreciation Week: "Because of You" 🍎
This week, we are celebrating the dedicated leaders who serve on the Waterloo Community School District Board of Education. Our 2026 theme is "Because of You," highlighting the vital role our board members play in shaping the future for our students.

We are kicking off the week with our Board President, Astor Williams, who has dedicated 9 years of service to the students and families of our district!

Astor is a leader who understands that education is about more than just academics—it’s about the people who see your potential before you even see it yourself. Growing up, he loved Math, though he admits Gym and Lunch eventually "stole the show." If you ever caught him in a school talent show, you’d find him working hard behind the scenes as a crew hand, ensuring everyone else shines!

When reflecting on the educators who changed his trajectory, Astor remembers leaders like Mr. Hanson, Deb Frahm, and Lavell Jackson—mentors who challenged him and made college feel like a real necessity. Today, after nearly a decade on the board, Astor uses his "school board superpower" to ensure every family in our district feels heard and supported.

Reflecting on his ability to connect with the community, Astor shares:
"I feel I can go into different spaces and help make a difference with individuals and families from all walks of life."

If he could go back to school for a day, you’d find him in an Economics or Statistics class, continuing his lifelong love for learning!

Thank you, Astor Williams, for everything you do for our students and staff. Because of you, our district is a stronger place! 🧡👋
