Let’s give a hand to this week’s Member Monday feature: Sova Dance & Puppet Theater! Based in Connecticut and serving schools, arts venues, and community organizations across New England and New York City, Sova Dance & Puppet Theater has presented performances in locations such as Madison Square Park and Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, and completed a 2023 tour including Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre in the Woods, the Ballard Institute & Museum of Puppetry, and Puppet Showplace Theater. Adelka P***k is a dancer, puppeteer, mask performer, and movement director whose work has taken her around the world, including Denmark, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Taiwan, Scotland, and Turkey. She has collaborated on Ajijaak on Turtle Island at the New Victory Theater with puppets from the Henson Creature Shop led by Heather Henson and Ty Defoe, and has worked with Squonk Opera and the Czechoslovak American Marionette Theater of NYC, performing at venues such as Lincoln Center Outdoors and La MaMa. Featured on CPTV’s Spotlight on the Arts, she has spent over two decades as a professional puppeteer and educator, building more than 20,000 puppets with children and teaching alongside partners, including the Jim Henson Foundation, to support educators and therapists in using puppetry in the classroom. We thank Adelka P***k for her artistry and dedication and for being a valued member of UNIMA USA!
