Thank to all of our volunteers and the staff at ocean beach! We had a great turnout and got a lot of work done before the rain got too cold! I'm so glad we got to work together to help our community.

For everyone who’s concerned about the work happening along the nature path at Ocean Beach, here are the facts:

Save Ocean Beach and Alewife Cove worked together to secure a grant specifically to remove invasive, non-native species and replace them with native plants that support the local ecosystem. As part of this grant, companies were carefully vetted and selected based on their experience restoring sensitive and endangered habitats.

To clear up some misinformation that’s been circulating:

• This work is legal. Restoring the nature walk is fully permitted.
• Only non-native and invasive plants are being removed.
• Herbicides being used are highly diluted and are not harmful to local fish or wildlife when applied at these levels.
• Habitat is a reputable restoration company that works with state parks throughout New England, specializing in the removal of invasive species and habitat restoration.

This project is about protecting and improving the natural environment for the long term 🌱
