🐾 Thank you!🐾

We just want to say a big thank you to everyone who's donated food or litter, contributed financially, shared our posts, volunteered your time, opened your home to fosters, or even just helped with encouragement when things were rough. It's hard to explain how much it means to us! ❤️

Rescue work can be exhausting, chaotic, pricey, and occasionally make us question our life choices when we hear cats and kittens 'singing the song of their people' at 3 a.m. 😅 Knowing we have a community behind us makes it all worthwhile.

So again, thank you so much for supporting what we do and helping us care for the cats who need us. 🐾

🐾 A HUGE thank you to Gagnon’s Pet Resort in Colchester! 🐾

We want to give an incredibly grateful shout-out to John Gagnon's Pet Resort for generously donating these beautiful cages to Feral Cats Count! They've already been put to good use, helping us care for recent kittens we've had. We know they'll help many cats and kittens who come through our rescue in the future ❤️

Also a special thank you to Barbara Glenn Kil for donating her time and truck to help transport them for us. We truly appreciate everyone who helps support our rescue and the cats who depend on us.

Thank you again, Gagnon’s Pet Resort and Barbara, for helping us help more cats! 🐱❤️

🐾 A Little Update 🐾

We know we’ve been quiet lately, but it’s been a very busy summer 😅 Kitten season is no longer just a season and if I'm being honest? It hasn't been for a long time now.

These past few months have been a big reminder of just how out of control the cat population is and the importance of spaying and neutering. The number of kittens being born is insane, and there simply aren’t enough homes or resources for them all.

We're going to try to be more active moving forward. We'd like to educate more, even if it's just a few helpful facts, here and there.

This has been a summer of learning for us and a summer of firsts as well. Some good and some bad, but both beneficial in their own ways.

Anyway, we have a few events coming up! Please keep an eye on our posts to see events going on, who's going up for adoption and what we're up to.

In the meantime, enjoy some adorable kitty faces from this summer 😽

All of our cats and kittens are dewormed, flea treated, rabies vaccinated, FVRCP vaccinated, SNAP tested and spayed/neutered. Most are also microchipped.

🔥 Meet Tabasco! Cute, huh? Can you believe that technically, she's 'feral'? 😺 That's right!

When most people think of feral cats, they imagine them as nuisances. As the mangey, petrified or vicious image that's often portrayed and they get a lot of hate for it. 🐈

However, just because you can't touch them, doesn't mean they don't deserve care. It doesn't make their lives less valuable. It doesn't make them any less appreciative.

Tabasco was born outside to a Feral mama. Unfortunately, she's a smart girl and we weren't able to trap her quickly enough, so socialization wasn't successful. It's been almost a year and I still can't touch her, but, as you can see in the video, she's very sweet and shows love in her own way. Tabasco likes to talk to me, follow me around as I clean, bump my legs when it's mealtime and occasionally, she'll lick Churus off of my fingers.

They may never let you touch them, but often, with time and patience, you can gain their trust and affection. They may just show it differently than you'd expect. 🩵

Rescue work sometimes means making difficult and unpopular decisions. Sometimes it means we're the 'bad guy'. That's okay.

Our responsibility is not to make every adopter happy. Our responsibility is to advocate for the cats and kittens who cannot advocate for themselves.

That means asking questions. It means verifying information. It means occasionally delaying or declining an adoption when concerns arise, even when doing so is uncomfortable.

We understand that not everyone will agree with every decision we make. That's okay too.

At the end of the day, we answer to the animals in our care first. Their health, safety, and long-term well-being will always come before convenience, pressure, deadlines, or public opinion.

Thank you to those who continue to support thoughtful, responsible rescue! 🩵
