What a terrific day we had last week in collaboration with NEST and the Nature Conservancy! Brass City Harvest will be stewards of 8 trees that we planted under the guidance of Josh and Les. The property now features 4 sweet gum and 4 black Tupelo tress on either side of our building. This is a true growth experience in so many ways, and to see people out here digging in the dirt was really awesome. Thanks to the Waterbury Times for spending time with us to understand the project and its impact! 🌳πŸͺΎπŸ•ŠοΈπŸ¦‹πŸ

We are gearing up for market season, which opens for us in Waterbury on July 7 at the Waterbury Senior Center 10-12. Here's a peek at what our farmers -- all two of them -- have in store for our customers. Kale, Swiss chard, peppers, peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, collards, bok choy and mustard greens will be rolling out early summer. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to increase our output and focus on growing right here in the city. And how about those amaryllis? Farmer Shawn planted the often dormant bulbs, typically seen at Christmas, in full sun and voila!

Lunch time learning Mattatuck Museum this week featured our favorite farmers from PARK CITY HARVEST LLC.

Shawn and Rich shared their story, knowledge and growing tips with the rapt audience in a way that was engaged and accessible. They are uniquely themselves and Brass City Harvest is lucky to have them in our crew. And look at that painting g by artist Wende Caporale-Greene -- INSANE!

We have a time change owing to expected excessive heat. The tree planting event will now take place Friday 8-11.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in joining us. We are excited to partner with Brass City Harvest, whose commitment to fostering 50 seedlings through our Foster a Tree Program demonstrates their dedication to growing not only healthy food, but a healthier and greener Waterbury as well.

Together, we will be planting 8 trees and are still looking for volunteers to join us. We hope to have at least 10 volunteers, but the more the merrier! Food will be provided, so please let us know if you plan to attend so we can get an accurate headcount.

The planting session will be led by Joshua from The Nature Conservancy, who has been an invaluable partner in our urban forestry efforts throughout the city.

If you are interested in volunteering, or know someone who may be interested, please reach out. We would love to have you join us as we continue working together to grow a greener, healthier Waterbury.

Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

We are excited to be part of this project!

NEST is excited to invite you to join us for an upcoming Community Tree Planting at Brass City Harvest!
As many of you know, Brass City Harvest was a key partner in our Foster a Tree Program, generously fostering 50 tree seedlings representing several tree varieties. Their commitment to Waterbury has long been evident through their work addressing food insecurity and increasing access to fresh, healthy food. This partnership demonstrates that they are growing much more than food...they are helping cultivate a healthier, greener Waterbury for future generations!
Together, we will be planting 8 trees on-site at their location in the South End of Waterbury which is one of the focus areas where we are planting trees along with Crownbrook, and we are looking for at least 10 volunteers to help make this project a success. Of course, the more helping hands, the better! Food will be provided, so we would appreciate a headcount if you planned to attend.
The planting session will be led by Joshua from The Nature Conservancy, who has been a valued partner in our urban forestry efforts throughout the city. This will be a great opportunity to learn proper tree planting techniques, connect with fellow community members, and contribute directly to Waterbury's growing urban forest.
If you are interested in volunteering, or know someone who may be interested, please let us know. We would love to have you join us.
Together, we can continue growing a greener, healthier, and more resilient Waterbury.
Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you there!

Ives Bank (formerly Danbury Savings) has been so good to us through the years.
The foundation awarded us again with a generous grant that allows for our senior cooking and nutrition programs to continue. These classes are so popular and so important to our community, as they promote healthful eating, provide nutritional information by our amazing nutritionist Nichole, and offer opportunity for socialization -- an extremely important component for this demographic. Thank you for this 2026 award,
We are thrilled to carry on!

We were invited to participate in Maloney Magnet School's Career Day, and Farmer Shawn spoke to the students there about his path to his career. The kids had so many questions and were so engaged, which is a testament to the school and the expectations the teachers and administration have for their students. We have had the pleasure of partnering with Maloney for our Cooking with Confidence program as well, and those experiences have been so fulfilling for both the school and Brass City Harvest. Thank you for supporting us!
