Catastrophic flash floods have swept through Nepal’s Bhote Koshi river system, taking lives, destroying homes and infrastructure, and leaving hundreds of people unaccounted for.

Search-and-rescue operations are continuing across Nepal’s Rasuwa district and other affected areas, but damaged roads and communications, severe weather, and difficult mountainous terrain are making it harder to reach remote communities.

GlobalGiving has launched the Nepal Flood Relief Fund to support communities affected by this devastating disaster.

Donations will provide trusted local organizations with flexible funding for urgent needs like search and rescue, emergency medical care, shelter, food, clean water, and essential supplies. As the response shifts toward recovery, the fund will also help communities rebuild and prepare for the future.

For local organizations responding to crisis, flexible funding can make a lasting difference.

A grant from GlobalGiving’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund helped UA Brokers Without Borders maintain stability during a challenging period, retain its core team, continue its programs, and access additional funding opportunities that required co-financing.

That support helped the organization keep doing what it does best: responding to the needs of its community.

Every child deserves the chance to arrive at school ready to learn—and having enough nutritious food is an important part of making that possible. 💚

This August, our Project of the Month Club is supporting Fight Malnutrition in Filipino Children from KITO Odv.

The project will provide balanced meals six days a week for 333 children at Lantuyang Elementary School and Adong Mangyan School on Mindoro Island in the Philippines. Two local mothers will help prepare the meals, and local teachers, community members, and volunteers—including people from Mangyan Indigenous communities—help make sure the program responds to the needs, culture, and language of the families it serves.

Kito President Paola Vecchiato put it beautifully: “We don't just provide food—we work alongside local communities to build lasting solutions.”

Thank you to everyone who supports our Project of the Month Club. Your generosity is helping children get the nutrition they need today while supporting communities working toward healthier futures for years to come.

Five years ago, the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan.

Since then, communities across the country have faced an escalating humanitarian crisis—from restrictions on women and girls’ rights and a collapsing health system to mass deportations of Afghans from neighboring countries.

Through it all, local organizations have continued to show up.

As GlobalGiving prepares to make another round of grants from our Afghanistan Emergency Fund this fall, we are highlighting five incredible partners who have continued to make a difference over the last five years:

📚 Sahar Education is creating pathways for girls and women to continue their education and build skills despite ongoing restrictions.

🏥 Action for Development is helping keep essential healthcare available, including maternal and newborn care.

🤝 Bamyan Foundation is providing emergency assistance to forcibly returned families and supporting community-led underground schools for girls.

🦿 Development & Ability Organization (DAO) is providing prosthetics, physiotherapy, psychosocial support, and other services for people with disabilities and survivors of conflict.

🎒 Aid Afghanistan for Education is helping children move from working in the streets back into classrooms while supporting their families with food assistance.

Five years on, our partners continue to adapt, build, and care for their communities. Stand in solidarity with them and support locally led work in Afghanistan at the link in the comments.

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake has struck western Colombia, taking lives and causing widespread destruction across affected communities.

Buildings have collapsed, people remain trapped, and rescue teams are searching for survivors as aftershocks continue. Communities across Chocó, Risaralda, Valle del Cauca, Caldas, and surrounding areas are reporting severe damage.

GlobalGiving has launched the Colombia Earthquake Relief Fund to support locally led relief and recovery efforts.

Your donation can help trusted local organizations respond to urgent needs such as emergency medical care, shelter, food, clean water, and essential supplies. As needs change, the fund can also provide flexible support for longer-term recovery and rebuilding, including in underserved and hard-to-access communities.

On July 28, the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention turned 75.

The Convention established a vital framework for protecting people forced to flee—including the right to safety, education, decent work, housing, documentation, and access to justice.

For more than 20 years, GlobalGiving donors have helped organizations turn those rights into action, raising $63.6 million for Refugee Rights projects.

How significant is $63.6 million?

It could be equivalent to 2.5 million journeys to valid permits, school supplies for 3.18 million refugee and migrant children, or vocational training and startup tools for 127,200 displaced young people.

Those examples illustrate the scale of what’s possible when people come together around a shared belief: Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild.

Seventy-five years later, let’s keep the promise of protection moving forward.

*The comparisons above are illustrative equivalents. The $63.6 million supported many organizations, activities, and outcomes and was not allocated exclusively as described.*

A safe place to learn. Nutritious food on the table. Support during a crisis. The chance to live with dignity.

These needs may look different from one community to another, but they are all part of building a safer and more hopeful future.

The organizations featured in this month’s photo carousel are:

🌍 helping children affected by war learn, recover, and reconnect (War Child Nederland)
🥕 fighting hunger and food waste (European Food Banks Federation - FEBA)
🤝 supporting vulnerable older adults (Elders assistance Asbl)
🐾 protecting animals from suffering (UAnimals)
🌱 helping families grow healthy food and sustainable livelihoods (Seed Programs International)
🧠 expanding access to emotional well-being (AtentaMente)
♿ advancing the rights and dignity of people with disabilities (Humanity & Inclusion US)
🏠 helping children in Haiti safely reunite with their families (Little Footprints, Big Steps)

We’re grateful to Turkish Philanthropy Funds for its generous $10,000 donation to the GlobalGiving Venezuela Earthquake Relief Fund.

This gift joins donations from across the GlobalGiving community to support trusted organizations responding to urgent needs in Venezuela.

Together, contributions to the fund are helping support efforts like Peace Winds America’s mobile health clinic, which is providing medical care and emergency relief to affected communities.

They are helping organizations like the Brazilian Red Cross, via International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies provide direct financial aid to individuals and families, retaining their dignity of choice and stimulating the local economy.

And they are helping restore educational opportunities through work like SUPERATEC’s development of educational materials, recreational activities, and school reconstruction.

Every donation adds to a larger response: helping organizations meet immediate needs while continuing to support communities throughout recovery.

Thank you to Turkish Philanthropy Funds and everyone who has contributed. Join them, and donate to the Venezuela Earthquake Relief Fund at the link in the comments.

Disasters don’t end when the headlines fade.

At GlobalGiving, we support vetted nonprofit partners already working in affected communities—because local leaders understand the context, hold trusted relationships, and know where support is needed most.

From urgent relief to long-term recovery, your generosity helps communities recover and rebuild.
