On December 9th in Washington, D.C., ANSI's Standards Education Workshop will bring together standards organizations, industry leaders, universities, educators, and government stakeholders to tackle an often-overlooked piece of the standards ecosystem: the talent pipeline.

Participants will:

The next generation of professionals has an important role to play in quality, safety, accreditation, conformity assessment, laboratory sciences, credentialing, standards, and related fields. The ANAB Emerging Professionals Scholarship will award $1,000 to one student pursuing studies in these areas. To keep pace with demand in key emerging technologies like quantum, AI, and cybersecurity, workers and employers need traditional education pathways complemented with competency-based, work-based learning models that accelerate skill acquisition and expand access to emerging technology skills. Only by investing in both technological innovation and human capability skills can we fully realize the promise of these transformative technologies.

AI-driven skills analysis is changing the equation. Organizations can identify employees whose demonstrated capabilities already align closely with the requirements of a role, estimate the training needed to close remaining gaps, and accelerate development plans with far greater confidence. However, AI should support—not replace—human judgment. Even with AI analysis, these decisions still depend on complex human factors, including company policies around ethical use of AI.

Instead of relying on credentials as a rough indicator of knowledge, employers can identify, measure and develop the specific skills that drive performance. ​

Standards work remains largely invisible in classrooms and early-career pipelines, leaving a generation of talent unaware of a field where their skills are urgently needed. ANSI and its members are working to close that gap. Through scholarships, competitions, curriculum development, and hands-on training, the standards community is giving students and emerging professionals direct exposure to the discipline.
