Over 500 rescues in 4 years! 😱 We're so grateful to Rizale for making food rescue part of her weekly routine, transporting hundreds of pounds of food from Wegmans Food Markets to Martha's Table & UDC Fresh Produce Pantry every week.

As if adopting these huge donations weren't enough, Riz is also on our Quick Response Team, jumping in to cover additional food rescues when we're in a bind.

Our September impact! Although we did slightly fewer rescues than in August, we're proud to be steadily increasing the number of partners that we serve each month.

We couldn't have asked for better weather for today's harvest at the Voice of the Farmer Garden 🍠
Our volunteer Beth, our Ops Director Jenna, & Megan from Farm Journal Foundation had lots of fun digging up these spuds, including one of the smallest sweet potatoes we've ever seen 😍
This bounty was donated to BlessingsGalore143!

WE RESCUE 26! was a roaring success, full of familiar faces & fond memories of the last 10 years. Thank you so much to everyone who attended & supported us in celebrating this milestone as we forge ahead to keep reducing waste and nourishing our neighbors.

Bonus shout-out to our Event Planner Mariah Hayes and all the restaurants and volunteers who helped out that night! Round 2 of gorgeous photos by Noe Todorovich Photography will be up later this week 😉

Closing out Food Waste Prevention Week with a couple of our weekend warriors! Ann, Zach, and Heather have all made food rescue part of their weekend routines, making it easy to keep up their volunteering habit.

With dozens of food rescues on our schedule every day of the week, we are deeply grateful to each and every volunteer who helps us accomplish our mission. Thank you, Food Heroes!

Yesterday was a busy day for our Food Heroes:
☀️ Shreyaa picked up from TWO grocery stores in VA in the morning,
🍲 Jon delivered 100 lbs of meals plus dining supplies from a company cafeteria to Vida Senior Centers,
🌽 Bill (and wife Robin) gleaned 93 lbs of produce from FRESHFARM Virginia in Reston after dark!

Thank you for helping us stop all day long!

Food Heroes in Your...Statehouse! Virginia State Senator Elizabeth Bennett-Parker did this morning's food rescue from We, The Pizza | DC & VA Pizza in honor of Food Waste Prevention Week 🍕
She was joined by food rescuer Deirdre MacNeil, who shared about her volunteering experience as she marked her 93rd food rescue 🎉
The Senator and Deirdre delivered the pizzas to MeadeMemorial Episcopal Church, where they got to learn about the history of the church & its weekday lunch program.

Kicking off Food Waste Prevention Week by spotlighting three of our newest volunteers! Christy has been biking up and down Arlington, David has been picking up pastries in DC, and Lorenzo packed his car with back-to-back food rescues on his very first day!

Happy first day of fall 🍁 We've been so busy celebrating our 10 year milestone, we didn't even get around to posting our August stats! 🙈

With fewer special event rescues, many volunteers out of town, and school cafeterias on break, our momentum slowed down a bit in August after a busy start to summer. These ebbs and flows are normal, and we still rescued over 183,000 lbs of food and supported 143 Community Partners last month.
