What happens when AI can produce knowledge faster than we can understand it?

The reaction to OpenAI’s recent math breakthroughs points to a deeper question than what AI can do. It asks what we may lose when discoveries come without the human work of questioning, testing, and building on one another’s ideas.

In Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV warns “without careful attention, an educational system lacking in a love for truth may emerge, in which an incessant flow of information replaces the essential exercise of research, reflection and discernment.” His words offer a timely lens for thinking about progress, meaning, and what we must keep at the center of our conversations about AI.

The patroness of the Cabrini Leader Fellowship, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, brought deep faith, fearless compassion, and practical leadership to the needs she encountered.

“For parents who cannot afford a Catholic school education without scholarship support, this new program could provide a lifeline.”

That possibility now has particular relevance for New York families, as Governor Kathy Hochul announced just last week that the Empire State will opt in to the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, which will launch on January 1.

In a post published on Friday, Porter-Magee summarized a statement issued by Bishop O’Connell, the chair of the USCCB Committee on Catholic Education, who underscored “the Catholic teaching that parents are their children’s first and primary educators, with an obligation to educate each child in the way best suited to that child’s development and needs” and explained that the FSTC provides “a way to give families the resources they need to choose the best learning environment for their children.”

Catholics across Louisiana are providing coordinated support for communities in need during emergencies through resilience hubs called "community lighthouses" that offer residents in need access to solar power to charge devices and access cooling as well as food.

Facing the threat of natural disasters, Catholics and other groups are creating resilience hubs that help people survive. Catholics are uniquely positioned to offer these hubs, because of Catholic social teaching, and because a parish is already a geographic entity wherein Catholic institutions are responsible for the well-being of every soul—not only sacramentally but also materially.
