Throughout her career, Norma has been a dedicated advocate for gifted learners, helping shape gifted education policy, strengthen professional learning, and expand opportunities for students who are too often overlooked, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.

From her leadership in national and international gifted education initiatives to her work creating programs and resources for educators and students, Norma's contributions have made a lasting impact on the field.

What does meaningful allyship look like, and what can we learn from those who have helped pave the way?

For LGBTQ+ History Month, Jennifer Gottschalk, chair of NAGC's LGBTQ+ Network, explores lessons in allyship through the examples of Green Day, Dolly Parton, and Megan Rapinoe.

For educators, these lessons are especially important. Supporting gifted LGBTQ+ students means creating spaces where they feel safe, respected, and valued for who they are. It also means recognizing when we need to speak up, listen, and take action.

Identifying gifted students is only part of the work. Making sure they feel supported, included, and have opportunities to thrive is just as important.

At NAGC26, Dr. German Diaz and Dr. Martha Lopez from Milwaukee Public Schools will lead a conversation about how we can better recognize and support gifted Latino students. There isn’t one story of Latiné giftedness.

A new special issue of the Journal of Advanced Academics brings together voices and experiences that show just how layered those stories can be.

Across seven articles, researchers explore bilingualism and belonging, family advocacy, barriers within gifted education, creative talent, higher education, and the lived experiences of Latiné gifted learners and their families.

Two editorials are also available for free, offering a starting point for exploring how culture, language, identity, and community shape how giftedness is recognized and experienced.
