How might we reimagine gifted education by honoring different cultural ways of knowing?

Join us for the Signature Session: Reimagining Gifted Education Through Cultural Ways of Knowing at NAGC26.

Gifted education is an equity issue, and when identification practices, assessments, curriculum, and grading systems are built around narrow definitions of giftedness, too many students are left out.

This session will explore how we can:

🔹 Recognize and honor students’ cultural identities, languages, and ways of knowing
🔹 Examine bias, assumptions, and stereotypes embedded in gifted identification practices
🔹 Rethink standardized assessments, instructional resources, and grading systems
🔹 Intentionally design gifted programs that expand access to advanced learning opportunities

In this NAGC26 Preconvention Session, educators will explore how intentional engineering design can help students develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills across the curriculum.
