⚾🥎 One of my favorite moments from our free camp at Laney College involved a young girl who was stepping onto a baseball field for the very first time.

When she arrived, she was quiet and reserved, unsure of what to expect. We gave her a glove to use during the camp — and to take home as her own — and little by little she started to come out of her shell. 🧤

I was working with her at the hitting station, and I'll never forget the moment everything clicked. She squared up a ball, watched it jump off the bat, and her face completely lit up. Then she did it again. And again.

What started as hesitation turned into confidence, smiles, and excitement. Watching her experience the joy of barreling up a baseball for the first time was a powerful reminder of why we do this work. 💙

Sometimes all it takes is a glove, an opportunity, and someone believing in you to open the door to something new.

⚾🥎 Honoring the memory of David LeRoy DeWolf (June 8, 1959 – September 14, 2026) 💙

On September 26, family and friends gathered in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to celebrate and remember the life of David DeWolf — a devoted father, proud grandfather, and passionate youth coach who spent countless hours giving back to his community on and off the field.

David's love for the game and dedication to helping others continues to shine through. Thanks to the thoughtful contributions made to his memorial fund, kids in need will receive the gear and equipment necessary to play the game David loved so deeply. These gifts carry forward his legacy of mentorship, generosity, and love for baseball.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who honored David's memory with a donation, and our thoughts remain with his sons, Matthew and Jason, and his entire family.

We are deeply honored that David's family chose Pitch In For Baseball & Softball for his memorial, raising over $500 to ensure even more kids have the gear they need to get in the game.

⚾🥎 For Maya, softball became a bridge to her family and her own self-worth.

Maya's father played baseball in high school, but because Maya figured she would have to fund her own equipment, she didn't come out for the team her 9th grade year. Once she saw all of the donated equipment in the coach's office, she knew she wouldn't have to buy anything and decided to come out for the team. 🥎

Maya was able to invite her father to her games. It provided a powerful way for them to connect, as he began helping her practice at local parks on the weekends. 💙

Maya struggled with self-image issues typical of early high school. Seeing herself in a professional-grade uniform — funded by this donation — made her feel like a "real athlete." That confidence carried over into her social life, where she went from being an isolated student to having a core group of supportive teammates.

⚾🥎 They say time is money — but at Pitch In For Baseball & Softball, time is opportunity. 💙

Not everyone is in a position to write a check, and that's completely okay. Financial contributions are incredible, but the hands-on work of our volunteers is the true engine behind every single gear shipment we send out to kids in need.

⚾🥎 Meet Ryland! 👏

As Ryland prepares for his Bar Mitzvah next August, he's launching a service project with Pitch In For Baseball & Softball to help make the game he loves accessible to every kid.

Ryland says: "From t-ball at age 4 to the Final Four at Cooperstown All Star Village, baseball has given me confidence, leadership, and lifelong lessons. Now, as I transition to the big field and prepare for my Bar Mitzvah next summer, I'm giving back. For my Mitzvah Project, I'm partnering with Pitch In For Baseball & Softball to help make the game accessible to kids who don't have the gear or fields to play."

Chase donated a fantastic haul of equipment — baseballs, uniforms, gloves, helmets, cleats, catcher's gear, and bats — all headed to young players and programs that need it.

⚾🥎 The Taste of Hawaii in Southern Cali!

As a follow up to February's event, longtime partner the Kurt Suzuki Family Foundation hosted its first ever Taste of Hawaii event in Los Angeles to highlight special initiatives in Maui and southern California. Earlier this year, PIFBS and the Suzuki family partnered to donate more than $40,000 in equipment to bring baseball back to children in Maui who were impacted by the 2023 fires. In addition to their support of youth baseball, the Suzuki Family Foundation also supports education programs and programs that help families recover from the Lahaina fires. Thank you Kurt and Renee for your partnership! 🌺💙

⚾🥎 Jordan, 12, struggled at the plate last season. With lots of batting practice and a bat that fit him better, he has excelled at the plate so far this season. In fact, Jordan was batting in the 8th spot and creating more pressure at the plate — making the coaches notice the hard work he has put in and earning a potential move up in the batting lineup. 🧢
