It’s the unofficial start to summer! Here are some hot tips for keeping your piggies cool this season! ☀️🐷
🐽Keep your mud wallows full of water! Pigs use mud to regulate their body temperature - a great way for them to stay cool while having fun!
🐽Fresh water should always be available and refreshed at least 2x daily to help keep piggies hydrated.
🐽Piggy pools, extra water sources, sprinklers, or a gentle hose-down can also help pigs cool off safely during especially hot days!
🐽Make sure there’s access to plenty of shade during extreme temps
🐽Ventilated shelters with good airflow, like pinning up door flaps can make a big difference in helping air circulate through piggy houses.

And remember, if your pig is panting, overheating can become serious very quickly and immediate cooling is necessary. Bring them into air conditioning if possible, use cool wet towels draped over their backs, fans directed on them, and in severe cases, an ice bath may be needed.
Stay safe and keep those piggies cool this summer!⛱️

When should you trim your pig’s tusks? 🐷
The answer isn’t always straightforward. While tusk trimming can sometimes be necessary, it’s also important to understand that unnecessary trimming can create complications, including risk of infection or leaving more timid pigs defenseless within a herd dynamic.
That said, there are other situations where trimming is important for safety and health, especially if tusks are becoming dangerously sharp, causing damage to people, furniture, or other pigs, or growing in a way that could interfere with eating or lead to infection.
Regularly checking your pig’s tusks is an important part of piggy care, but safety should always come first. We strongly recommend working with experienced farriers for any trimming and maintenance needs!
We partner with trusted professionals for these services, so if you’re local and need help scheduling tusk maintenance, give us a call! 215.322.1539

Why do we use sorting boards with piggies? 🐷
Sorting boards are one of the most helpful tools for safely guiding pigs where they need to go, whether that’s moving through spaces, helping with handling, or making transitions less stressful for both pigs and piggy parents.
They’re also incredibly useful when introducing two pigs to one another, helping create boundaries and making interactions feel calmer and more controlled.
We use sorting boards regularly here at the farm, and so many of our customers have found them to be a game changer at home, too. A simple tool that can make pig parenting safer, easier, and less stressful all around. 🤍
