October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and today is National Wear Purple Day! KCIT stands with victims and survivors of Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence, and invites you to take some time and learn about how you can raise awareness, know the signs, and familiarize yourself with local resources, whichever county in PA you may be in.

As of September 10th, 2001, KCIT had responded to less than five communities in need.

After September 11th, 2001, KCIT had supported more than 4,000 individuals over multiple deployments.

As we all prepare to honor twenty-five years since the events of 9/11 tomorrow, we'd like to express our gratitude and pride for KCIT Volunteers who responded to those in need. KCIT Volunteers are highly skilled, dedicated, and compassionate, and they mobilized teams to respond to both Somerset County, PA, and sites in Northern New Jersey to support victims and families after the terrorist attacks.

Thank you to all first responders, KCIT Volunteers, mental health professionals, and the long list of those who support others in need during exceptional times.

Registration is live for our September 2026 Group Crisis Intervention- Deployment Ready Training!

Participants must attend all four sessions to receive their certificate, and the final session on September 25th is in-person in Clarion County.

KCIT acknowledges Juneteenth and wishes everyone a Happy Freedom Day!

If you would like to celebrate Juneteenth, please consider some of the following activities. Reading, listening to podcasts, and watching documentaries to educate yourself about racism and Black history in America, and Juneteenth specifically. Volunteering with an organization is a great way to celebrate and get involved.

Remember to de-center yourself and do not ask others to teach you. Ask permission before entering certain spaces or engaging with cultural practices if you are not part of that community. If you have funds, donating to organizations that center and support Black Americans is a great practice for Juneteenth.

Small actions can have a huge impact, and being a voice for change is always worthwhile. Have fun, learn some history, and get out in your community!

This month we honor the LGBTQ+ community and also elevate the increased need for services in this population.

In a 2025 press release from the Williams Institute at UCLA's School of Law, researchers analyzed pooled data from the 2022 and 2023 National Crime Victimization Survey and found LGBTQ+ people in the United States are five times more likely to experience violent victimization, and are also more likely to suffer serious levels of violence, and to suffer injuries as a result of attacks.

Pride Month is both a celebration and a protest. All Pennsylvanians deserve to receive support when violence strikes. To activate a team to support your community after a crime has occurred, call us at 1-855-SOS-KCIT.

KCIT staff and volunteers are wearing denim today in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

After an Italian Supreme Court ruled that a victim's tight jeans meant she had assisted in removing them, and could therefore not have been r***d, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim. This case sparked activism and the Denim Day campaign was created.

Today and every day, KCIT believes victims and survivors worldwide, and supports crime victims in Pennsylvania.
