An innovative program is helping middle schoolers have positive experiences in informal settings and offers lessons on creating inclusive STEM programming.

Recognizing middle school as a key developmental period for academic and social growth, NeuroVivid camp was developed by TERC, New York Hall of Science, and EDC to empower neurodivergent middle schoolers from different backgrounds to use Electroencephalogram (EEG) headsets to understand and interact with their brain activity.

A new article identifies several barriers that can prevent neurodivergent learners from fully participating in STEM programs, along with strategies to address them.

EDC is honored to welcome Dr. Richard McKeon as the Deputy Director of Strategy for the National Action Alliance for Su***de Prevention.

Dr. McKeon is the 2023 recipient of the American Association for Suicidology’s Dublin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Su***de Prevention. He worked at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for 22 years, including serving for 12 years as Chief for the Su***de Prevention Branch and more recently a senior advisor supporting the launch and growth of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

We're excited to share that Sesame Workshop has tapped EDC to lead an independent evaluation of its Healthy Habits Initiative in Brazil and Mexico.

Eating together. Getting adequate sleep. Washing hands. Healthy routines like these shape a child's life, and many are built between ages three and five, at home alongside family members. Sesame Workshop's Healthy Habits Initiative offers free resources to support those moments.

Over two years, EDC will work with the Rio de Janeiro Department of Education, Nayarit Ministry of Education, participating early childhood centers, and Sesame Workshop's country-based teams in Brazil and Mexico to conduct evaluation of the initiative and identify opportunities for improvement and investment. Findings will go back to participating families through workshops that support whole-family health and well-being.

Kids have to learn to put things in order before they can learn to read or code. It's called sequencing, and it's a building block of computational thinking.

EDC and SRI's study found that four and five year olds who got access to Work It Out Wombats! videos, games, and activities scored higher on sequencing than kids who didn't, after just eight weeks.

High Touch High Tech (HTHT) blends teacher professional development, effective instruction, and AI-enabled adaptive learning technology to personalize education for learners.

The Learning Generation Initiative at EDC and Fab AI recently co-hosted a global virtual event that presented evidence on the positive impacts of the HTHT approach in three countries—Cambodia, the Philippines, and Uruguay. Rigorous evaluations have found that implementation of HTHT consistently demonstrates significant improvements in student learning outcomes.

EDC's Julie Goldstein Grumet, Ph.D., is quoted in this week’s Mental Health Weekly coverage of a new HHS pledge to strengthen the behavioral health system.

As vice president and executive director of the Zero Su***de Institute, Julie focuses on helping health systems improve su***de prevention through evidence-based care, better measurement, and continuous improvement.

The recent HHS pledge reflects those same priorities, calling for timely access to quality care, attention to outcomes, and greater accountability for whether services are helping people get better.
