The Meta settlement will bring billions of dollars to states over the next decade to address and prevent harms associated with youth social media use. The bigger question is what those investments leave behind.

As states decide how to use these funds, they have a rare opportunity to build lasting capacity for the years ahead. Drawing on decades of experience across youth well-being, education, digital media and technology, EDC recommends focusing investment in three areas: building young people’s skills and agency; shaping environments for healthy digital lives; and using evidence to learn and improve.

Excited to share HRSA’s new investment in expanding home visiting’s proven success in achieving long-term positive outcomes for families!

We are deeply honored to be HRSA’s partner in advancing the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV) nationwide through initiatives such as the Institute for Home Visiting Workforce Development & Case Management Center and its National Strategy to Strengthen the Home Visiting Workforce (https://hvnationalstrategy.org).

For over 15 years, MIECHV has given expectant moms and families the right support at the right time. Studies show MIECHV improves maternal and child health and promotes better health, nutrition, and education outcomes while advancing family well-being, including economic stability.

Together, we can make sure all children have a strong start and all families thrive.

This Child Health Day, Administrator Tom Engels joined Ohio Senator Jon Husted and Representative Mike Carey (OH-15) to announce more than $525 million in awards through the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program to improve the health of moms, babies, and families.

This funding—the largest federal investment in home visiting in the program’s history—will expand home visiting services to help families across 56 states and jurisdictions.

Recruiting STEM teachers to high-need schools is only part of the challenge. Supporting them so they stay is also critical.

New research led by Jackie DeLisi, senior research scientist at EDC, examines how teacher preparation programs can support STEM educators working in high-need urban and rural schools, including the program experiences and features associated with long-term retention.

As part of the NSF-supported Preparation for Persistence project, this research contributes to a broader understanding of how we can strengthen the STEM educator workforce and create more equitable learning opportunities for students.

Congratulations to Richard McKeon, Deputy Director of Strategy for the National Action Alliance for Su***de Prevention at EDC, on receiving the inaugural CrisisCon Lifetime Achievement Award.

Richard has dedicated more than three decades to advancing su***de prevention and crisis services in the United States. During his 22 years at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, he served as Chief of the Su***de Prevention Branch and later as a senior advisor supporting the launch and growth of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

EDC is honored to lead the independent evaluation of the Everyday Literacy Alliance, a new national initiative to strengthen literacy for children ages 2 to 8.

A national coalition of partners including Nine PBS, Fred Rogers Productions, Ad Astra Media, LLC, E-Line Media, the Alliance reflects a simple idea: giving children a strong start takes more than any single program, classroom, or screen. It takes public media, family resources and community partnerships all working in harmony.

By studying how these experiences work together, EDC will generate insights that can help communities build stronger environments for early learning and help the field understand how effective literacy approaches can be adapted and scaled.

We’re proud to be part of the Everyday Literacy Alliance and to continue EDC’s more than two decades of research through Ready To Learn. As the Alliance’s independent evaluator, EDC will study how educational media, family engagement, and community partnerships can work together to strengthen young children’s literacy, building evidence that can help this work grow and reach more families and communities nationwide.

Science is stronger when people have a meaningful way to take part.

That's the mission behind PACE Clouds Challenge, which invites people over the next few weeks to use the GLOBE Observer app to photograph clouds as NASA’s PACE satellite passes overhead. Researchers can then compare those photos with what the satellite sees from space.

EDC and CUNY lead the GLOBE Implementation Office, a NASA-funded effort that connects people with opportunities to contribute to science. Rebecca Lewis, the office’s project director at EDC, shares how GLOBE gives people a meaningful way to contribute to science.
