“Henry Wix was two months shy of graduating from college and starting his life as an officer in the U.S. Army when a ruptured brain aneurysm took his life. Henry always wanted to lead a mission and be a hero. Henry did lead a mission but not the kind he envisioned. He became the hero he always wanted to be by donating organs and tissue for the betterment of others. A truly heroic act." - Donna Wix, Henry's Mom | Register your decision to be an organ and tissue donor at RegisterMe.org.

A big blue & green thank you to Londonderry High School Senior, Andrew Johnson, for hosting a concert to benefit New England Donor Services as part of his senior project! Andrew’s dad, Daniel, was a life-healing tissue donor in 2016. At times before each set, Andrew shared the meaningful connection between the song and his dad, and reminded the audience to please register as organ and tissue donors. Andrew and his band/crew wore shirts that clearly stated !

: A beautiful story about the oldest recorded organ donor in the United States!

This is a powerful reminder that no matter your age, you can register your decision to be an organ and tissue donor at RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App. Center for Organ Recovery & Education

It is with great pride that we share the monumental news that CORE recently recovered the liver from the oldest recorded organ donor in United States history, as confirmed by the United Network for Organ Sharing — 95-year-old Cecil F. Lockhart of Welch, West Virginia. Read more about this historic milestone: https://bit.ly/3hnrUFk

“CORE is incredibly proud to have been able to make this historic organ donation possible,” said Susan Stuart, CORE president & CEO. “This landmark in the field of transplantation is just another example of CORE’s pioneering legacy and commitment to innovation, which, over the last 40 years, has given 6,000 people in the United States the opportunity to save more than 15,000 others as organ donors.”

No matter your age or medical history, you can register as an organ, tissue and cornea donor at registerme.org/core.

Together with Donate Life Connecticut, New England Donor Services is proud to present Optum with a Employer Recognition Award! This award honors an employer or workplace that went above and beyond in support of an employee during their donation or transplant experience. Judi Edwards, pictured here with the award alongside Vice President and General Manager, David Withee, nominated her workplace following her altruistic living kidney donation in June of 2020. Judi shares, “There was only support and encouragement in the journey. I’d have expected nothing less of my leaders and of Optum/UnitedHealth Group, but the support and seamless internal processing/planning made the time away for donation “business as usual” from a work perspective.”

Judi hopes sharing her experience will inspire others to consider living donation and become more aware of their company’s benefits. Congratulations, and thank you Optum for your positive workplace culture towards allowing staff to give back to others through organ donation!

Please join us in congratulating Shelbye Maynard, OR Nurse Manager at Saint Francis Hospital, for recently receiving the Daisy Award! The Daisy Award is a nation-wide program that recognizes excellence in nursing. NEDS Hospital Relations Coordinator, Heather Harris, nominated Shelbye for her outstanding support for organ donation. Heather shares, “Shelbye established the Honor Walk with the MSICU staff so that all organ donors at Saint Francis are honored throughout the transition from the ICU to OR. She is an excellent support system for donor families and is committed to making sure they know their loved one will continue to be cared for with respect and dignity after they leave the ICU.”

Thank you, Shelbye, for your compassionate dedication!
