At Upstate Caring Partners, we love connecting with the next generation at local school career fairs!

We spend time talking with students about their interests, skills, and experiences—and sharing the many rewarding career paths available within our organization.

One exciting opportunity we offer is our Junior DSP (Direct Service Professional) program. This hands-on experience gives teens a real look at what it’s like to work in human services. Participants attend after-school classes three days a week for four weeks, where they learn from our training team and shadow staff across multiple locations.

At the end of the program, students who show strong interest and aptitude can apply for a part-time role as a Junior DSP—either while still in high school or as they continue their education in college.

It’s a great way to build skills, gain experience, and start making a difference early!!!

Everyday Engagement is the term our clinical research team uses to describe the “tool bag” of techniques that can be used in Skill Based Treatment or teaching essential life skills with the individuals we support on a daily basis. For many of the individuals we serve, introducing a new skill or activity can be challenging and overwhelming, even if that skill is necessary to their health and well-being. Everyday Engagement helps staff build their capacity for engaging individuals in activities or teaching new skills. This initiative has been so successful among our school age population that the clinical team is expanding training into our adult day habilitation facilities.

Everyday Engagement's key components address the way staff present themselves, interact with the people we support, how the classrooms are organized, how staff provide guidance in navigating challenges and changes, and how staff respond when individuals are having a difficult time with an activity or transition.
