Recently, Renee Jewett, Drop-In Center Director, visited the Remsen School 3rd-6th graders for Career Day to discuss what she does at the Drop-In Center. She shared about the many programs of Rescue Mission of Utica, homelessness and some of the many reasons that someone might become homeless, and how the children can be helpers in their own community. She presented the hygiene kits that are given out at the Drop-In Center as well as read a book to the students about a homeless family and talked about her lived experience with homelessness as a child. Thank you Renee, not only for how you care about all your clients at the Drop-In Center, but how you also promote education, empathy, and compassion to all those you meet. 😊❤️

The Community Resource Room will be offering a new workshop titled Community Resource Navigation on Wednesday, June 24th from 11 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The workshop is designed to help participants become familiar with local resources available throughout the Utica area; many people know services exist but aren't sure where to start or how to access them. During this session, we will review common community support and provide information on eligibility, locations, contact information, and how to connect with services.

Topics will include:

· Food pantries and meal programs

· Clothing resources

· Hygiene and personal care support

· Medical and dental clinics

· Mental health and substance use services

· Transportation resources

· Housing and emergency assistance

· Warming and cooling centers

· Additional local programs and community support

Participants will receive resource handouts to utilize as well as have the opportunity to ask questions about services that may fit their individual needs.

Please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone who may benefit. We look forward to helping community members become more connected with the resources available to them!

New Episode of Restored: Deanna’s Story

When Deanna entered recovery, she never expected to find herself homeless, without income, and unsure where to turn next. But what felt like the end of the road became the beginning of a new chapter.

In this episode of Restored, Deanna shares her journey through addiction, homelessness, and recovery, and how the Rescue Mission of Utica’s Drop-In Center became a place of safety, support, and hope when she needed it most.

Today, she’s sober, housed, and rebuilding her life one day at a time.

Her story is a powerful reminder that homelessness can happen to anyone, recovery is possible, and your support makes a real difference in the lives of people right here in our community.

Watch now and hear Deanna’s inspiring story of restoration.
