UPDATE: Kaiser Canyon Wildfire Relief Effort

It’s been 10 days since the fire began, now burning over 120,000 acres. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve raised over $13,000 in relief funds and provided tons of essential supplies to Colville Tribal donation centers in Omak and Coulee Dam!

As evacuations continue and families navigate lost or damaged homes, we are still collecting donations.

URGENTLY NEEDED ITEMS:

Shelter & Camp Living

- Canopies/shade shelters
- Foldable tables
- Ice chests/coolers
- 12-volt plug-in coolers (vehicle-powered coolers)

Portable Kitchen Supplies
- Coleman camp stoves
- Propane canisters
- Pots and pans
- Cooking utensils
- Kitchenware
- Dish tubs/basins

Power & Lighting
- Lanterns
- Flashlights
- Batteries (all common sizes)
- Portable battery packs/power banks
- Battery chargers

Household & Daily Essentials
- Laundry detergent
- Stackable, reusable storage containers (plastic totes with lids)
- Backpacks
- Air purifiers (currently none available)
- Portable air conditioners (currently only two available)

Animal Care
- Pet food (supplies are quickly depleted)
- Grain/feed for horses

Food Donations
Please Note: The Coulee Dam donation center has limited capacity to store food because they cannot refrigerate it and are concerned about rodents. They will accept food donations, but food items need to be transported to the government center in Nespelem for distribution.

📍 HOW TO DONATE:

Physical Items: Drop off 24/7 at MVIC (210 5th Ave, Twisp).

Financial Support: Donate online to MVIC at www.methowvalleyinterpretivecenter.org with the note "wildfire relief" so 100% of funds go directly to tribal partner organizations.

The Cedar Fund of the Colville Indian Reservation has established the Colville Wildfire Relief & Recovery Fund to provide direct assistance to individuals, families, and communities impacted by recent wildfires on the Colville Indian Reservation.

Donations will help meet immediate needs—including emergency shelter, food, clothing, household essentials, and other critical support—while also assisting families as they begin the long process of rebuilding their homes, restoring their lives, and strengthening their communities.

Every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can stand with our neighbors, honor our shared responsibility to one another, and help the people of the Colville Indian Reservation recover with dignity, resilience, and hope.

Wow, there's a lot going on at MVIC this coming weekend!

First, we've got our June Native Garden Work Party happening Saturday morning from 9am-11am. If you'd like to get your hands in the soil alongside your fellow community members, please just show up and bring gardening gloves if you have them.

Following the work party, we're having an MVIC Open House from 11am-2pm. If you're curious about what we do at MVIC or are interested in volunteering as a docent or at various events throughout the year, please drop by!

Lastly, come catch our June Last Sunday, Enloe Dam Removal: A Case Study in Connectivity at the Interpretive Center from 5pm-6:30pm (on Sunday, of course). This will be a presentation by Chris Fisher, Fisheries Biologist for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. He'll be giving us an in-depth look at the future of the Similkameen River as we explore the historic effort to remove the Enloe Dam.

Since its construction in 1923, this non-operational structure has blocked vital fish passage and disrupted the natural flow of nutrients and sediment. Come learn how this significant restoration project is set to revitalize the Similkameen River Basin for generations to come.
