When you get involved with NAMIWalks Tulsa, you’re helping create something far greater than a single event—you’re strengthening a local movement that supports individuals and families affected by mental health challenges across our community. 💚

We’re inviting community members, organizations, and businesses to get involved by registering a team, joining an existing one, exploring sponsorship opportunities, or helping spread the word. Every level of engagement directly helps expand access to education, support, and connection for those impacted by mental illness.

Funds raised stay local and go directly toward providing free programs, peer support, family education, and community resources that meet people where they are and ensure no one has to navigate their mental health journey alone.

Your involvement helps reduce stigma, build understanding, and strengthen a network of care that supports all those affected by mental health conditions—across every stage of their journey.

Let’s walk together—because no one should have to carry it all on their own. 💚

Earlier this week, I signed an Executive Order that will establish Tulsa’s Task Force on Community-Based Mental Health, Behavioral Health, and Alternative Response.

Thanks to years of work by public safety professionals and community partners, coupled with City and private investments over the years, Tulsa has already made significant progress through programs like our embedded COPES clinicians at 911, our opioid response team, the Community Response Team (CRT), and ART 1, 2, and 3. All of these programs focus on community-based intervention, referrals, and connect residents to the services that matter most.

This task force is about building on that momentum - bringing together stakeholders from across the city with our public safety teams to strengthen coordination, evaluate what’s working, and identify opportunities to expand and improve our partnerships moving forward.

Public safety is about how we respond to emergencies, yes, but it’s also about making sure people in crisis are connected to the care they need, improving outcomes, and continuing to make Tulsa safer and healthier for everyone. That’s what creating the safest big city in the country is all about.

I look forward to assembling this team in the months ahead and continuing our work alongside partners to continue building a safer, healthier Tulsa.

Oklahoma faces a severe shortage of psychiatric beds for children and teens. Families are waiting too long. Providers are struggling to find placement. Communities are feeling the strain.

By focusing exclusively on youth beginning July 1, Parkside is stepping forward to meet this urgent need with purpose, clarity, and long term commitment.

This is how we build a stronger, more responsive mental health system for young people.

Young men today are facing unprecedented levels of loneliness, isolation, and pressure to "handle it on their own." It's time to change the conversation.

Join NAMI Oklahoma for an important discussion on the growing mental health challenges impacting young men and boys, and explore how connection, community, and supportive relationships can make a lasting difference.

Together, we'll learn how to show up with compassion, encourage healthy conversations, and support the men and boys in our lives—while also maintaining our own well-being.

đź’™ Because asking for help is strength, not weakness.

Young men are growing up in a world where positive male role models can be difficult to find and many are taught to keep their struggles to themselves rather than reach out for support. As isolation, loneliness, and disconnection continue to rise, so too does the need for honest conversations about men's mental health.

This presentation explores the challenges facing young men today, the factors contributing to the growing mental health crisis, and the role that relationships, community, and connection can play in creating a healthier path forward. Together, we'll examine how we can support the men and boys in our lives with compassion and understanding while maintaining healthy boundaries and protecting our own well-being.

đź’™ Caring for others starts with caring for yourself.

NAMI Tulsa and the Lifestyle Medicine Research & Education Institute ( ) invite you to join us for our next Lunch & Learn on July 7 at 12:00 PM via Zoom.

"You Can't Pour from an Empty Cup: Protecting Your Health While Caring for Someone You Love" with Dr. Wendy Dick will focus on supporting caregivers through practical strategies for:

• Building resilience

• Recognizing caregiver burnout

• Managing stress and compassion fatigue

• Prioritizing your own health and well-being

At NAMI Tulsa, we know that supporting mental health means supporting the entire family. Caregivers play a vital role, and they deserve support, resources, and spaces that remind them they are not alone.

Whether you're caring for a loved one living with a mental health condition, supporting a family member, or simply wanting to strengthen your own well-being, we hope you'll join us for this important conversation.

đź’™ Have you experienced your own mental health journey and feel called to support others?

NAMI Connection Facilitators are individuals living in recovery who use their lived experience to create hope, foster connection, and remind others that they are not alone. Through NAMI's evidence-based model, facilitators help create safe, supportive spaces where adults living with mental health conditions can connect and encourage one another.

If you're at a place in your recovery where you're ready to give back, we encourage you to consider becoming a NAMI Connection Support Group Facilitator.

✨ Open to adults (18+) living with a mental health condition
✨ No prior attendance at a NAMI Connection group is required (though it is encouraged)
✨ Includes a two-day training and ongoing support
✨ Facilitators commit to one year of service and become part of NAMI's mission of hope and recovery

⏰ Registration closes Thursday—don't miss your opportunity to sign up!

Together, we can ensure that no one faces their mental health journey alone.

NAMI Connection is for adults (18+) with mental health conditions. NAMI Connection Facilitators are uniquely qualified to lead support groups because they are going through their own recovery process. By utilizing NAMI-trained support group methods, they empathize with and encourage those who are just beginning the journey to a renewed life. A NAMI Connection Facilitator ensures that the group shares responsibility for maintaining guidelines, sustains clear participant boundaries, clarifies goals, and reinforces communication skills that encourage group participation.

Who can facilitate a group?

• Any adult (18+) who identifies with a mental health condition may apply to become a NAMI Family Support Group facilitator.
• They are at a point in their own recovery that they are able to “give back” to others.
• All potential leaders are screened to determine whether the opportunity is a good fit for the individual and for the organization.
• Prospective leaders attend an intensive 2-day training to become certified.
• All facilitators must be members of NAMI and commit to a minimum of one year of service.

While attending a NAMI Connections Support Group in the past is not a requirement, it is encouraged.
