The North Rim is entering a new chapter — and we want your voice in it.

Starting today, we're opening a 30-day public involvement period to gather your feedback on a long-term vision and draft redevelopment concepts for the North Rim, following the Dragon Bravo Fire.

Grand Canyon National Park remains open on both rims. This is an early-stage planning effort — the decisions made now will shape the North Rim for generations, and we want to get them right together.

Kaibab National Forest fire managers plan to begin ignitions on prescribed fire units on the North Kaibab Ranger District in the Jacob Lake area this week, which will produce noticeable smoke in and around the Jacob Lake and Fredonia areas and along highways 89A and 67.

The US Forest Service uses prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

Areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns. A temporary reroute of 6.2 miles of the Arizona National Scenic Trail north and south of Orderville Trailhead may be required -- see detour map and the FarOut app. This impacts portions of Passages 41 and 42 of the Arizona Trail.
