Happy World Environment Day from AAZK and our Conservation Partner, SaveNature.org! SaveNature.org works to educate people about biodiversity and protect ecosystems through fundraising and conservation partnerships. Check out their “Adopt an Acre” or “Adopt a Reef” programs, where members of the public have a direct way to support conservation through symbolically adopting land in a conservation area. They also offer educational opportunities for school children through programs like their “Insect Discovery Lab”. See how you can help by checking out their website!

K.E.E.P. AAZK is excited to share that Toucan Rescue Ranch has another listing on the AAZK Job Board under the KEEP Exchange subcategory. Please email us at [email protected] with your interest and questions. The deadline to apply is June 14th!

Ashley, a keeper who recently went to the Toucan Rescue Ranch as a KEEP participant, shares about her experience: I finished my placement at Toucan Rescue Ranch in early May. It was one of the highlights of my professional career! I was able to shadow some of the most knowledgeable sloth professionals in the field. My time at TRR was short but very educational. As a keeper, I was able to help brainstorm training behaviors for their spider monkeys shifting behavior, give ideas on how to have successful intern/mentor relationships and brainstorm ways to help sloth in human care in the United States. Some of the people that I was working with had no previous animal care experience, but were very interested in working in animal care, so I was able to give some guidance on how to become a keeper. TRR was so welcoming and offered me an opportunity that I would never have had if they didn't offer this opportunity through K.E.E.P. and AAZK. I am hoping that more facilities across North America can open their doors to keepers so that other keepers can grow and learn from one another. This opportunity is exactly what I was hoping to get from my time at TRR!! ~Ashley
