Our crew just wrapped their 3rd hitch of the spring in Gila National Forest doing emergency response on Allie Canyon Trail after the Trout Fire and somehow still found time to spot Putnam’s Cicadas and catch stunning sunsets over the mountains.

Those pretty yellow flowers you keep seeing along Arizona roadsides?

They’re not wildflowers. They’re one of the most aggressive invasive plants in the state and they’re spreading fast.

Dalmatian Toadflax was brought here as a garden ornamental. Now it’s smothering native plants, poisoning livestock forage, and taking over roadsides and wildfire scars across Arizona. A single plant can release up to 500,000 seeds in one year and its underground roots keep sprouting new plants even after you pull it.

Here’s what you can do:

🌿 Learn to identify it
📍 Report sightings at AZInvasivePlants.arizona.edu ✂️ Remove small plants by hand before they seed
📲 Download the iNaturalist or Seek app to help ID plants in the field

In honor of National Trails Day, Wild Arizona teamed up with the Every Other Monday Trail Group to work on the Carr Peak...

In honor of National Trails Day, Wild Arizona teamed up with the Every Other Monday Trail Group to work on the Carr Peak, Old Sawmill Spring, and Reef Townsite Loop trails in the Huachuca Mountains of southern Arizona.

The project area was at 7,300 ft. elevation, so the temperature was a mild 75°F. Our team of ten volunteers worked to ensure a total of 2.25 miles of trail were cleared through rocking, brushing, and cutting new sections of tread. At the end of the day, we refueled with some slightly melted (and stale) chocolate donuts before driving back down the long switchback road. Along the way, we passed a herd of 20+ deer enjoying the late spring weather.

Thank you to the EOMTG for always showing up and putting in the work. And happy National Trails Day, everyone!
