Join award-winning architectural photographer Randy VanDuinen of for an architectural photo walk through downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, September 19.

Randy will lead the group through key equipment, angles and techniques for creating stronger architectural images—and you'll have plenty of opportunity to experiment with how you capture the lines, light, perspective and details around you.

We're kicking off Great Lakes PhotoMax 2027 with a full day dedicated to The Business of High School Seniors with pre-conference speaker Jenn Lewis!

On Friday, February 12, Jenn is taking photographers through the senior experience from beginning to end — from inquiries, consultations and client prep to lighting, posing, sales, marketing and pricing.

And this isn't just about creating great senior portraits. Jenn is digging into the business behind them: building an experience teens want to talk about, creating a sales process that works, and turning beautiful images into a profitable photography business.

Jenn specializes in high school seniors, but many of the sales principles she'll share can translate across portrait genres — so don't count this one out just because seniors aren't your specialty.

What will you enter?

You don't have to wait until entry deadlines are approaching to start thinking about Print Competition.

Maybe you've already created the image.

Maybe it's sitting in your archives waiting for another look.

Or maybe the image you want to enter hasn't even been created yet.

Now is the perfect time to start thinking about what you want to put in front of the judges prior to PhotoMax 2027.

We'll be sharing information, inspiration and tips in the months ahead. But for now: What will you create?

What if Fall Retreat isn't about changing your photography style at all?

You can learn camera settings, lighting, posing, composition and editing—but technical skill is only part of what makes an image memorable.

Intent to Image isn't about learning someone else's style. It's about recognizing what already makes your photography different—and turning up the volume.

Whether you photograph portraits, weddings, landscapes, wildlife, commercial work or fine art, you'll explore the patterns in what you notice, what you're drawn to and how you interpret what's in front of you.

Through conversation, simple prompts and hands-on activities, you'll work toward greater clarity and creative direction—from inspiration and capture through editing and the finished image.

The goal isn't to leave photographing like someone else.

It's to leave understanding a little more about what makes your work yours.
