When a young adult walks into an interview, lands the offer, and then loses it to a background check — that's not just a bad day. That's a systemic barrier.
Allen Killiebrew, Lead of Career & Life Development at Isles Youth Institute, is weighing in on NJ Assembly Bill A1760, which would require the state to identify and publicly post job opportunities with minimal barriers to entry for people returning to the workforce after incarceration.
For the 16- to 24-year-olds Allen coaches every day at IYI, this bill could mean a real pathway forward instead of a dead end.

New May 2026 CitiStat data from the City of Trenton NJ - City Hall shows meaningful reductions in homicides, robberies and overall crime compared with the same period last year.

🩺 Knowledge = prevention.
Isles Senior Advisor Elyse Pivnick recently presented "Good Things to Know About Lead in New Jersey" at Grand Rounds for pediatric residents at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital .
Elyse shared information about lead exposure that isn't typically covered in medical school -- including what's specific to New Jersey families, from our older housing stock to state screening requirements and the resources available to help.
When pediatricians know what to look for and where to point families, kids get protected sooner. We're grateful to RWJUH for the chance to be part of the conversation.

We're screening Wilding (2023), David Allen's documentary about Isabella Tree and Charlie Burrell's daring experiment to rewild their 3,500-acre Knepp Estate in West Sussex -- entrusting a debt-laden farm's recovery to free-roaming ponies, pigs, cattle, and deer, with beavers and white storks eventually finding their way back. The film argues that nature, given space, can restore degraded landscapes faster and more fully than human management ever could.

💧 Beat the heat, Trenton!
Members of of our Trenton Community Street Team TCST are stepping up this summer to organize a Community Water Drive — and we need your help to keep our neighbors hydrated and safe when temperatures climb.
This independent service project, led by Street Team member Terrenace Smith, will provide free bottled water to families, youth, unhoused neighbors, and anyone in need during extreme heat days. Water will be distributed at community events, high-traffic areas, and through ongoing outreach across the city.
Donations we're seeking:

🥤 Cases of drinks

🎉 We cut the ribbon today on the Lafayette Street Parklet!
Isles CEO Sean Jackson was joined by Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora and Kamal Bathla of Maestro Technologies, along with Isles staff, to officially open this new community space in the heart of the city.
So grab your laptop, pour a cup of coffee, and come enjoy some sunshine on Lafayette Street. ☀️
This project was made possible through a Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) grant — another example of how strategic investment can transform a streetscape into a space where the community can gather, work, and connect.
