Going back through the archive and found this gem from 2014. If there is one universal truth about our building it is that the acoustics are amazing and never fail to impress!

A nice night here at the Trenton Temple as we host the second lecture in our Spring Lecture series with Robert Fanelli as he presents his book, "Lydia's Tale." Our friends at the Old Barracks are working diligently to get their building up and running but in the meantime we are pleased to be able to help them in their mission to bring history to life.

In “Lydia’s Tale,” Robert Fanelli shares the story of Lydia Darragh, whose actions are said to have saved George Washington’s army from a devastating ambush. Using genealogical sources, legal documents, and other correspondence, Fanelli reveals for the first time the life and experiences of this remarkable heroine of the American Revolution.

This lecture will be held at the Historic Trenton Masonic Temple at 100 Barrack St., Trenton, NJ 08608. Parking will be available in parking lot 1 next to the Old Barracks Museum

All proceeds go towards supporting the Old Barracks Museum and its mission. Thank you to Sons of the Revolution in the State of New Jersey and Hunter Research for sponsoring this event.

Robert N. Fanelli is a founding member of the Washington Crossing Revolutionary War Round Table. He serves as a Trustee of the Swan Historical Foundation, which owns the excellent collection of revolutionary war artifacts on display in the museum of the Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville, New Jersey.

He is particularly interested in Pennsylvania’s role in the American Revolution, and has lived most of his life along the flanks of Edge Hill, site of an encounter between the American and British armies on December 7, 1777. He is the author of Lydia’s Tale: The Mystery of Lydia Darragh, Irish Quaker, Patriot Spy and a frequent contributor to The Journal of the American Revolution.

On Sunday, April 5th, The Historic Trenton Masonic Temple will be one of the stops for the "Revolutionary Run" being made from Wilmington, Delaware to Lexington, Massachusetts. There are 3 goals for the run. The first is to bring attention to America's 250th Anniversary. The second goal is to celebrate the 50th year of the Scottish Rite Museum and Library in Lexington and also to pay tribute to the role many Freemasons played in the American Revolution, 250 years ago.

The name of the runner is Patrick Atkinson, a proud Scottish Rite Freemason, and an experienced long-distance runner, will run 333 miles over 8 days. His route will take him through many areas that witnessed historic events during the American Revolution. Patrick is undertaking this extraordinary journey, running 50-60 miles a day, to raise awareness about the museum, to mark the events surrounding the founding of the United States and—most importantly—to connect with people, history, and Freemasons along the way.

If you would like to be a part of the welcoming committee for his stop here in Trenton plan on being here at 2pm on Sunday, April 5th. There is about a 40 minute window where he will be spending time here and getting a quick refresher. If you would like to make a donation or just read more about his effort just click on the link below.

We are asked quite often on the history of the 2 Masonic Temples on our property. The one on the corner was built in 1793 and was originally on the lot where the new, larger Temple was eventually constructed in 1928.

In 1914 it was decided to move the original building to the corner of the lot in order to make way for the new Lodge. The new Lodge did not actually start construction until 1926 due to a number of factors but the first part had been done.

Recently we came across some photos from the 1914 move of the 1st Lodge. As part of our love of history here, we decided to restore the photos and share them with everyone. Here are a few from that time period.

You will see the Capital building and the Old Barracks as they appeared in 1914 along with a view of the old canal that used to run more or less where Lafayette Street is. The canal was the Trenton Water Power Canal and it was built in 1834.

Trenton is full of history if you open your eyes and check it out.
