His Heart For Africa

His Heart For Africa His Heart For Africa’s mission is to share the love of Christ by providing education for children and care for the elderly in Jinja, Uganda.

There is such a huge demand for help getting children an education. No schooling in Uganda is free. You have to pay for everything. No mom should ever have to make the choice between feeding her child and sending her child to school. His Heart For Africa comes alongside moms and grandmas who are taking care of their children and grandchildren to the best of their abilities. These women work hard b

ut don't make enough money to provide a roof over their heads, food, and an education. We help alleviate some of this difficulty by providing the school and lunch fees as well as school supplies so a child is fully prepared to receive an education. There is also a great need for care for the elderly. One of the reasons so many people have so many kids is the hope that one of them will survive long enough and do well enough in life that they can care for them as they near the end of their lives. There is no hospice or nursing homes or assisted living. Relying on your children or neighbors is the only way that you will be taken care of as you get older and near the end of your life.

This morning, Heather had an executive director meeting. She went to that while Betty stayed home with the dogs. Afterwards, she ran to the ATM so she could go pay for many of our car insurances that are due for renewal tomorrow. She came back and picked Betty up and we ran a few errands in town. We picked up a hot water heater which will get installed for Tara tomorrow. While looking for something else, Heather found a new battery for her VX because we realized the one in her car was dead the other day. We grabbed lunch out and then went over to Shalom. Heather cleaned the water filters there and then we brought Denis to go buy some new flowers for over at our house. Heather worked on cleaning and getting the pool situated and Betty enjoyed swimming some laps. Betty then gave Dobi a much needed bath. We had a quiet night in and tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Please pray we get some good rest tonight and can get everything done tomorrow that we need to!

This morning Dr. Herbert came and gave Loki and Dobi their annual shots. Keziron helped us pay rent for our mama who just had surgery because she hasn’t been able to work as she recovers. Then Denis and Keziron helped us clean up the bougainvillea, traveler’s trees, and palm trees outside and inside the compound. Herbert brought us lunch and then helped clean up things that we cut down as well. We did yard work for 6 hours and still didn’t get everything done but things are looking much better now! When Bright got out of class, he came over and helped us mow. We’re going to have to start watering the grass; it’s been 3.5 weeks since we’ve gotten any rain!

This morning we left to pick up Denis and then we went and picked up our mama that had surgery. We brought them to Rippon for their reviews. Both have improved and we are thankful for that! Denis blood pressure is still too high, however, so the doctor advised to increase his blood pressure medication. We are praying that that helps! From there, we went to Shalom to get some shoes for some of our students to try on at church this next week (a few pairs have broken since they went back to school). Then we stopped at a pharmacy to get something that a friend needed before grabbing plates of local food from Mama Sophie’s. We ate with Denis and then he went home to rest. We had a quiet afternoon. While we were at the hospital this morning, we ran into our vet. He is going to come by tomorrow to give the dogs the shots that they need. We’re praying that goes okay!

““I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”

Thankful for a quiet day today! Heather worked on some coursework and Betty worked on printing off quite a few documents for our students and getting those organized for them. We grabbed lunch out and ran a few errands in town but had a quiet evening in with the pups. We are looking forward to seeing our Amazima students tomorrow!

“He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not s***f out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.””

This morning, Betty hosted Bible study over at Shalom. A few of the ladies couldn’t make it today, but it was a sweet time with those who could. When we finished, Betty met Heather over at Afri Egypt. She had just picked up Tara and Mama Zack to go get a CT. As soon as they were done, Heather drove them back to the hospital and Betty waited to get the results. What should have taken 30 minutes took over 2 hours. As soon as they were out, she brought the results over to Tara. Please continue to pray with us for healing for Mama Zack.

This morning, Heather worked on Bible study for our students and Betty worked on organizing a bunch of receipts. We picked up Denis and brought him back to Rippon for more medicine through his IV. While Betty sat with himself Heather went and picked up some school
supplies we needed and helped Tara run an errand too. We grabbed a quick lunch and then drove out to VIVA to drop off a calculator to Faith because hers was stolen. When we got home, Betty did some food prep for Bible study. Our gathering was sweet tonight. A few of the ladies are going to miss tomorrow, but a couple will still be able to make it. We’re praying continued healing for Denis and for God to bless all of the women involved in this Bible study!

“I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.”

Today was supposed to be a quiet day but ended up being rather busy. Our mama who had surgery called this morning saying she was having swelling and pain that she didn’t think was normal. After explaining what was going on to the doctor, we were told to bring her in. Denis went with us to help pick her up. They think she will be fine but changed up what medications she is on and we will bring her back on Monday. While we were there, we decided to have Dr. Christine, an ENT, look at Denis. She decided to put him on stronger medication through an IV to try to help reduce the swelling he’s having in his ear. We’re praying this gives him some relief soon. While Betty waited with him to get his medicine, Heather dropped our mama back home. By the time she got back, we were just about done but Tara’s mama needed to go get a scan at another hospital. Heather ended up driving them because our car is lower to the ground and not as difficult to get into. Please pray healing for Tara’s mama with us; she still has an incredibly long road ahead of her. When we finally got done, we fed Denis so he could take more medicine and then baked and cooked for friends of ours that just had a baby. We dropped that off to them and then grabbed a quick dinner out before heading home to be with the dogs. Maybe tomorrow will be a quieter day!

Today was a public holiday in Uganda which meant Bright had a day off from school. We brought him over to Bacchus early this morning to introduce him to Keith who runs the restaurant. Bright has missed being able to make coffees, so he will be volunteering his time on weekend mornings to help make the coffee orders. We sat with Keith and had breakfast and had Bright make quite a few coffees for us which were all delicious! We’re thankful to Keith for letting our guy volunteer with him so he can keep his skills fresh and we’re praying that he is able to share his skills with the staff their as well. When we got done there, Heather worked on making some food that we were able to bless a couple of our friends with. We also helped Tara pick up some medical supplies that she needed and dropped those to the hospital for her. We had a relatively quiet afternoon which we are thankful for!

This morning our elderly had their review at Kamu with Dr. Charles. Denis also came to see Dr. Charles. He has been experiencing very high blood pressure so he was started on medication for three months to try to get that lowered. He also has been having a problem with his ear so he was given medication for that as well. We’re praying the medicine works quickly and that he will feel better soon. As for our elderly, they are mostly doing well. Dr. Charles decided to run some extra tests for two of them. One set of tests came back normal and the other came back a bit concerning. He has decided to run some more tests to see what’s going on. Everyone was given 2 months of medicine so their next review will be at the beginning of August. Heather and Betty both had chiropractor appointments and then we ran some errands for Tara and brought her some medical supplies to the hospital that she needed. We are praying continued healing for her patient, Mama Zack, who still has an incredibly long road ahead of her.

This morning we went to church out at Amazima.
Church went long because the S6 students talked about the mission trip they went on over the break and then we heard a sermon too. Juma played drums for two of the worship songs and we are very proud of him! We checked in with our students afterwards and all of them seemed to have a good first week back. We’re continuing to pray that they have a great term! After church, we grabbed a quick lunch out and then came home and hung out with the dogs. Tomorrow our elderly have their review with Dr. Charles at Kamu and we’re praying they are all doing well!

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
