Look at What You Made Possible This Past Year
✅ $4,000 in college scholarships awarded to high school seniors dedicated to the environment. This year marks 20 years of scholarships—over $70,000 given to future environmental leaders!

✅ Eight Going GREEN Sustainability Lectures covered a wide range of environmental topics that affect our community. You can find recordings of those lectures on The Woodlands GREEN website - HERE.

✅ Our Invasives Volunteer Task Force logged over 741 hours clearing our green spaces of invasive plants, helping natives, and the critters that depend on them, to thrive. 14,000 gallons of invasives removed!!

✅ Community Garden volunteers grew organic, nutritious, delicious produce year-round for the Interfaith Food bank.

✅ Our High School Student Ambassadors from five area high schools supported environmental education in The Woodlands.

✅ Our Junior Urban Naturalist Club offered seven nature classes for 6–13-year-olds on subjects : Bats , Insects, Trees, Forest Creatures ,Rocks and Minerals, and Critters of our National Parks.

✅ We donated $2,000 to our local libraries to enhance their environmental book collections.

✅ Litter Collections and Adopt-A-Path volunteers removed hundreds of pounds of waste to protect local waterways and aquatic life.

✅ Texas Water Specialist training and certification continued at WG Jones Forest with 47 participants learning and dedicating hundreds of volunteer hours to preserve our waterways.

And more new programs and projects are coming!!! Including the creation of pollinator and habitat demonstration gardens at the WG Jones State Forest, through a collaboration with the Heartwood Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists and WG Jones State Forest. We are also embarking on a multi-year riparian restoration project funded by a Watershed Protection Plan Implementation Grant from The Texas A&M Forest Service.

Spring Creek — the waterway winding through Mitchell Preserve, the Spring Creek Greenway, and countless beloved trails — has been officially designated "impaired" by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) due to excessive f***l bacteria. Not exactly what you want to hear about a place you walk, bike, and recreate.

The good news: there's an active plan to address it. The Spring Creek Pollution Protection Plan, developed by TCEQ and the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) with input from local stakeholders, has been approved and adopted by the state.

Rachel Windham updates us on where things stand — covering how local watersheds are connected, what's driving water quality problems, and what individuals, neighborhoods, and regional partners can do about it. She also highlights the work of the Spring Creek Watershed Partnership, a community-led organization focused on improving water quality in Spring Creek and its tributaries, including Panther and Bear Branches.

It’s National Wildflower Week, and maybe one of the biggest opportunities for native wildflowers and more beautiful spaces is hiding in plain sight.

Across the country, millions of acres of lawn have the potential to become something more alive: spaces that support pollinators, provide shelter for wildlife, and reconnect us to the natural world right outside our doors.

You don’t have to start from scratch to make a difference. Mowing less often, planting a few native species, expanding a planting bed, or letting part of your yard grow a little wilder can all help create a healthier landscape.

This National Wildflower Week, we’re encouraging people to rethink their lawns through Reimagine the Lawn, a spring challenge focused on small, practical changes at home.
