🥗Good food deserves to be eaten — not thrown away!

Week after week, delicious, healthy food is being redirected to the Friendly Fridge BX thanks to incredible local restaurants, schools and organizations like Sharing Excess, Orwashers Bakery, Marianne’s Pizza, Great Performances via Wave Hill, Tierney’s Fine Foods, Riverdale Bagels, Addeo’s Pizza, Moss Café, Atmosphere Academy and more! 🙌

And food sharing doesn’t have to happen on a huge scale. This week, a local family preparing to move realized they couldn’t take everything with them—so instead of tossing perfectly good pantry items, they brought us their spices, seasonings and other staples to share with their neighbors. 🧂🌶️🥫💚

A fellow community organizer once summed up food rescue perfectly:

“Here, we have people who need food and food that needs people!”

It really is that simple.

Whether it’s fresh produce, beautiful loaves of bread, dozens of freshly prepared meals from a restaurant, or a bag of spices from someone’s kitchen, food that can be shared should be shared. 🌎♻️🍴

Restaurants redirect it. Bakeries redirect it. Schools and organizations redirect it. Families redirect it. Volunteers move it. Neighbors share it.

Less waste. More sharing. More good food on people’s tables. Our entire Bronx community benefits.

We do this together — and THAT is worth celebrating! 🎉💚

We're especially excited to welcome the incredible Fogo Azul, whose powerful samba reggae drumming always brings the energy and gets everyone moving.

In catering, a little extra is part of the plan because no one wants to run out of food at a party or an event. But that doesn’t mean those extras have to go to waste. With a bit of redirection magic, surplus becomes something special. Instead of seeing leftover trays as a loss, they can become meals, connection, and care beyond the event.

It’s a simple shift that turns “too much” into exactly what’s needed -supporting communities while cutting down waste at the same time. Everyone wins!

called our team to help share their extras and the impact was enormous! A nearby family shelter, another community fridge and the Friendly Fridge BX community all found delicious, healthy meals thanks to quick thinking and intentional action. And our planet experienced a little less stress.

Hi Folks!

It’s finally feeling like Spring and we’re getting ready for the summer ahead. We need your help with something.

If you’re doing some Spring cleaning and have any of these courier bins laying around that you don’t need, we would love them. Those and shopping bags!

Taking a beat to celebrate the life of our beloved Miguel who took us all by surprise and began his journey on April 1, 2026.

He began volunteering with us over five years ago, showing up with his ready smile and curmudgeonly sweet disposition.

Miguel instinctively knew the meaning of mutual aid. Known for his baking, he quietly won so many hearts slipping a piece of his flan to folks everywhere. A bus driver loved his gifts of flan so much he brought Miguel a mixer. Another neighborhood woman gave him a beautiful set of brand new bakeware. A diner regularly gave him breakfast and many requested his delicious cakes, muffins and pies -each made with love.

Miguel loved being outside in the fresh air. He loved being around people even more. He said often that he couldn’t stand being trapped indoors on days of bad weather. Even though he struggled with troublesome knees, he showed up with his muffins, dry, funny humor and his grouchy smile.

When Miguel took his leave, he left one final beautiful gift -the gift of his healthy liver. Someone is living a longer life because of our sweet friend.

Take a moment -please, and throw up a quick smile and thank you to the Universe for folks like our Miguel. And check your ID or license to make sure you’re an organ donor. Life is quick.
