Hot weather can become dangerous quickly, especially for older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and those without access to air conditioning. ☀️

Air conditioning is the best protection during extreme heat. If you do not have air conditioning, spend time in a cool place like a cooling center, library, or a friend or family member’s home.

When outdoors:
💧 Drink water often
🧢 Wear light, sun-protective clothing
⏸️ Take breaks in cool or shaded spaces
☀️ Limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day

Call 311 or visit finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenters to find a cooling center near you.

In this next post of our Cannabis Equity Defined series, we are breaking down cannabinoids.🌿

The cannabis plant contains over 100 cannabinoids, natural compounds like THC (known for its psychoactive effects or the "high") and CBD (which is non-psychoactive). These chemicals interact with your body to create different mental and physical effects.

You might see numbers like 1:1 or 4:1 on a label. This is the ratio of one cannabinoid to another. For example, a 1:1 ratio means the product has equal amounts of THC and CBD.

Understanding how these chemicals work helps you make informed choices. Remember, you must be 21 or older to buy, use, or possess cannabis for medical and/or recreational use in New York State.

As part of Women’s Health Month, we are recognizing National Women’s Health Week by highlighting the importance of preventive health screenings. 💜

Screenings can help detect certain health conditions early, sometimes before symptoms begin. Staying up to date on recommended screenings is one way to support long-term health and well-being.

Screening recommendations can vary based on age, family history, and overall health. Talk to a healthcare provider about what screenings may be right for you.
