LCBA’s back to school drive and luncheon was a success! Thank you to Education Foundation of Lake County’s executive director, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson and donor development specialist Kacey Edmondson, for joining us! The school supplies will fill the shelves of their Apple-Mart stores, which provide Lake County teachers with vouchers to shop for classroom supplies. ✏️ 📕 📚📓 🖍️

Thank you to everyone who attended the Lake County Bar Association’s Law Day luncheon. Lena Hopkins from Community Legal Services presented the Pro Bono Service Award and Guardians of Justice winners. Congratulations to Choung Mi Lim Akehurst who was awarded the Lake County Pro Bono Award given by Community Legal Services. Our guest speaker, Devin Jarrett, shared his experience with the legal system. Mr. Jarrett, at the age of 16, was sentenced to life in prison in 1995, as a principal to the murder of Rick Martin. He was released from prison after his sentence was modified to probation last month after a sentencing review hearing in accordance with Graham & Miller case law. Rick Martin's Mom and Sister were in attendance.

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Julian Harrison, a respected attorney in the Fifth Judicial Circuit, on February 5, 2025. Julian dedicated over five decades to the legal profession, primarily serving the Bushnell community in Sumter County. His commitment to justice and service extended beyond county lines, impacting many in Lake County and throughout our circuit.

A memorial service to honor Julian's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, February 15, at First Baptist Church of Bushnell. The schedule is as follows:

10:00 AM: Viewing

11:00 AM: Service

12:00 PM: Lunch
