Volunteers return phone calls during Plant Clinic Hours. You can email photos and questions to our MGVs at [email protected]. Emails are generally returned within 2 business days. The Discovery Garden is open M-F 8am-4pm and the third Saturday of the month from 8am-4pm. The Florida Master Gardener Program recruits individuals who are interested in gardening and enjoy sharing what they learn with others. Participants complete a training course sponsored by the University of Florida and the Lake County Extension office. In return for their training, these new Master Gardeners serve 75 volunteer hours and participate in 10 learning hours within the first year of their certification. Each year after volunteers give 50 hour with 15 in areas of public education and earn 10 continuing education credits to remain active. Giving back to our community through public education is out number one mission. Certified Master Gardeners work through the Lake Extension office to educate Floridians and provide research-based information about gardening- America's most popular pastime. Master Gardeners can fulfill their volunteer hours in a variety of ways, including:
-answering horticultural questions over the phone and in person in the Plant Clinic (public education activity)
-giving educational programs to the public (public education activity)
-participating in community and school garden projects (public education activity)
-disseminating information at community events (public education activity)
-supporting youth activities (public education activity)
-performing soil sample evaluations
-working in our Discovery Gardens and greenhouse

Celebrate the season at our Fall Festival. Eat, learn, shop, and have fun at this free two-day community event held at Discovery Gardens. This fun, festive event has something for everyone and is a great way to support and explore local gardening and community programs. Explore the gardens and shop for plants and garden-related crafts.

Visit the 4-H Open House to learn about local youth programs and enjoy hands-on activities for children and families. Meet our chickens and rabbits.

EUSTIS, Fla. — Trout Lake Nature Center will host a Native Plant Pop-Up Sale on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to noon, or until plants sell out.

The sale will feature a variety of Florida native wildflowers, groundcovers, grasses, vines, trees and shrubs ready for fall planting. Selections include tropical sage, sunshine mimosa, Stokes’ aster, spotted beebalm, dense blazing star, milkweed, muhly grass, coral honeysuckle, American beautyberry, firebush and more. Availability may vary.

Members of the Lake Beautyberry Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will be available to answer questions and share information about native plants and their benefits.

Native plants do more than beautify a landscape — they help sustain the web of life around us. Their blossoms offer nectar and pollen to bees and butterflies, their seeds and berries feed birds and other wildlife, and their foliage and grasses provide shelter for small creatures. By choosing plants native to Florida, homeowners can create vibrant outdoor spaces that welcome wildlife and help sustain the ecosystems these species depend on.

Proceeds from the sale support TLNC’s environmental education and conservation programs.

Admission to the plant sale is free. After noon, regular admission is $5 per vehicle, while TLNC members enter free.

About Trout Lake Nature Center

Trout Lake Nature Center is a nonprofit environmental education and conservation organization in Eustis, Florida, located on 230 acres of forests, wetlands, trails and lakeside habitat. TLNC’s mission is to connect people with nature through education and conservation.

Trout Lake Nature Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Last entry is at 3:30 p.m.
