We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Attorney Barbara Laners, Esq., a founding Board Member and longtime General Counsel of Making A Difference Foundation.

Barbara served our organization since its founding in 2003, providing more than two decades of leadership, legal counsel, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to our mission. Her guidance helped build Making A Difference Foundation from the ground up and shaped the work we do to strengthen communities across Washington State.

Through the programs, partnerships, and community investments she helped guide, Making A Difference Foundation has infused more than $108 million into Washington communities over the past decade. Barbara’s leadership and legal expertise were instrumental in helping make this impact possible and in advancing opportunities for individuals and families throughout the state.

A respected civil rights attorney, community activist, mentor, and advocate for justice, Barbara devoted her life to protecting the rights of others and uplifting underserved communities.

“Barbara was more than our General Counsel—she was one of the architects of this organization,” said Ahndrea L. Blue, President and CEO of Making A Difference Foundation. “Her wisdom, courage, and unwavering belief in justice helped guide every stage of our growth. We would not be who we are today without her.”

Barbara’s legacy is woven into the foundation of our organization and the lives of countless people she touched. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and community.

Rest peacefully, Attorney Barbara Laners. Your life made a difference, and your legacy will live on.
