Auburn Survivors of Su***de is a King/Pierce/Thurston County self-help support group for those who have been impacted by the death of a loved one from su***de.

'This is not a therapy group and the leaders are not counselors. We are here together to share common experiences and to receive support from one another. We ask that you respect one another's feelings and beliefs as his/her own and not judge one another by them.'

Kaniehtiio Horn, who you may know from her performance in Reservation Dogs, wrote, directed, and stars in SEEDS, playing Monday, October 12 for Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

The screening is part of our Sovereign Cinema series, co-presented by Tahoma Indian Center – a film series centering Indigenous stories of reclamation, resistance, and resilience. Stick around for an in-theater panel with local Indigenous food sovereignty leaders and medicine practitioners Melissa Meyer (Rose Island Farm) and Channa Bliner-Smith (Canoe Journey Herbalists and Center for Indigenous Midwifery). Then, gather with us in the Lounge over refreshments and community resource sharing. The Tahoma Indian Center will have a limited number of complimentary tickets available for community members. In this horror-comedy, a Mohawk woman is hired as a social media influencer but gets caught in a deadly cat-and-mouse game, as she’s forced to go to war to preserve her people’s heritage from corporate interests. Plays with a pre-recorded introduction from star Dallas Goldtooth!

We'll be closed this coming Monday, October 12th in recognition and celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day ✊🏽

But, we're SUPER excited to be in community with folks who will be attending the SEEDS film gathering at The Grand Cinema that evening at 7PM.

Not only will there be a special pre-recorded message from our relative Dallas Goldtooth to open the film ➡ that ONLY attendees will be able to see, by the way ⬅ but Sauncha Romey, Indigenous researcher and educator, will host an in-theater panel after the film, featuring Melissa Meyer of Rose Island Farm, and Channa Bliner-Smith, of Canoe Journey Herbalists and the Center for Indigenous Midwifery. This is a conversation you won't want to miss 🙏🏽

After the film, guests are invited to the lounge to mingle with panelists, learn more about Tahoma Indian Center programming, and enjoy some refreshments.

Culture Night is an opportunity for community members to come together, honor diverse cultural practices, share stories and make new connections 🌿

Our next Culture Night will be held on Friday, October 16th from 4-7pm.

You'll have an option of participating in either carving, led by resident carver, Rick Williams (Nitinaht Tribe) OR a Dreamcatcher Weaving activity, led by Tahoma Indian Center intern, Chanea Henderson (enrolled Muckleshoot Tribal member).

*Only one activity can be selected per person.

We'll be honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month and making space to explore art as medicine. We hold our hands up grassroots individuals, groups and organizations who provide awareness and resources to end this violence across Indian Country. We’d love for you to tag any changemakers in our comments so that we can collectively support and uplift this lifesaving work.

Safety note: For carving, we ask that participants be at least 7 years old (with parent/guardian supervision). Those under 7 years old who are eager to learn about carving are welcome to attend and watch.

Event flow note: We will begin the evening by gathering for a meal on the 1st floor at 4 PM. Enter through the alley. Following the meal, attendees will head on up to the 5th floor to our office, room 505, to begin cultural activities. An elevator is available to access the 5th floor.

We hold our hands up to Tacoma Creates for funding our culture night activities.
