Today is Juneteenth! At the YMCA of Central New York, we honor Juneteenth as a day of independence, recognition, and celebration of black culture. In 1865, those who were enslaved in the state of Texas were informed of their freedom - two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As we commemorate today as a day of liberation, we're reflecting and reaffirming on our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion for all communities!
To help our Y community with celebrating on a day dedicated to freedom, our friends over at the YMCA of Western North Carolina shared a great educational video with us on the best ways get involved today. We are dedicated to building and strengthening our local community every day. We are stronger, together!
